Here are some freakish athletes that are getting it done on the gridiron.
Joshua Barker
Joshua Barker
I have said it before. If Barker was standing at 6’4 instead of 5’10, I believe he would be one of the most highly sought-after players in the state. Even though some may consider him “undersized”, he doesn’t let the noise get to him and performs at a very high level. Through 5 games, Barker has put up an unreal 9.5 sacks and more than 30 TFLs. At this rate, he is heading towards a nationally recognized season. Watching film on Barker is extremely fun and satisfying. He plays the game extremely hard, and it helps that is a spectacular athlete as well. He does an outstanding job of powering his way through the offensive line, and also does a great job of dipping his shoulder to get downhill. Oftentimes, you can watch him chase defenders downhill and make some eye-opening effort plays. Barker has several small school offers, and his stock should continue to rise as he continues his statement season.
Hall caught my attention towards the end of last season, as I was very impressed with his playmaking ability at the QB spot. Now, he looks even better and is one of the more intriguing prospects in the state. Through 5 games, Hall has already surpassed 1000 rushing yards and has rushed for 300 or more yards in two games thus far. Also, he has come along as a passer in the last few weeks and is approaching 1000 yards through the air too. I have watched a lot of film, and it is hard for me to find a more dynamic playmaker than Hall. He is an incredibly explosive athlete that is practically impossible to bring down. He has a wide arsenal of spin moves, juke moves, and overall freakish features. Not to mention that he has elite-level speed. He reminds me a little of Bo Nix, but I believe Hall might be more athletic than Nix was at this point in his high school career. He shows some creativity and arm strength, but I do believe that Hall has the ability to play multiple positions at the next level. If you don’t believe me, turn on the tape.

Gibson, a Georgia Southern commit, has had a monster high school campaign. In his career, he already has over 4000 receiving yards, and that number will continue to grow. At this point in the season, Gibson leads the state in receiving yards and is on pace to finish with nearly 2000 yards and 30 TDs. On tape, Gibson proves to be one of the most complete WRs in the state. He has great speed and route running skills which allow him to create space. However, he also flashes some serious leaping ability and physicality, which allows him to go up over defenders and make some spectacular plays. His film is littered with unreal catches and he makes it clear that he is a threat to score every play. Georgia Southern got a steal and it will be fun to see how he develops at the next level.

Louie, a West Virginia commit, is generating plenty of buzz on the recruiting trail, and for good reason. Not only does Louie have great size at around 6’0 210, but he has had an extremely productive senior season. Louie has had a ridiculous season thus far, rushing for over 1,000 yards on nearly 12 YPC with 12 TDs. On top of his rushing ability, he has nearly 350 receiving yards on the season. Louie has a playstyle similar to Le’Veon Bell. He has great vision and patience, once he hits the hole, his acceleration does the rest and he is off to the races. He also has a nasty stiff arm and bounces off defenders with ease. His balance as a runner is uncanny for a high school RB. When you pair his rushing ability with his promise as a receiver, you have one of the most complete backs in the country. Look for Louie to continue to create some buzz this season.
Hugh Freeze and the Liberty Flames have a good one in Odinjor. His stock continues to rise on the trail. On the season, Odinjor has been terrorizing opposing QBs and is making a living in the backfield with 9 sacks. One thing I noticed was that he is doing it against good offensive linemen as well. Odinjor is one of the best-looking prospects you will find. He is all of 6’3 220 and is extremely explosive off the edge. Along with his explosion and pursuit skills, he does a great job of setting the edge and redirecting the play back towards the middle. He frees up a lot of his teammates to make plays, so his value beyond the stat sheet is huge. Odinjor can play at the next level at either DE or EDGE. Regardless, it is clear that he has the ability to make a difference at a very high level, and do it fairly quickly.
