Grayson Davenport
Grayson Davenport
In route to historical performance, Davenport made plays all over the field. While showing proficiency as both a slot receiver and outside option, he consistently made chunk plays. With 323 yards on 15 receptions and four touchdowns, it’s safe to say he was the most dominant receiver in the state last week. Davenport is a versatile weapon with a great all-around skill set. When running routes on the outside, he was explosive out his cuts and seemed to always provide his QB a wide window to throw to. This ability to be light on his feet and change speeds within his routes kept defenders on their heels all night. Davenport was also shifty enough to create yardage on orbit motion, screen passes, and quick game routes. He also showed good hands and the ability to adjust to throws- optimizing his catch radius. With this performance, Davenport should be in the conversation as one of the better receivers in the state.
Highlights
Creel was one of the better Quarterbacks in the state last week. Creel has been a catalyst for his offense, with 293 yards passing and 136 yards with four total touchdowns. He showed extreme comfort in the pocket, took what the defense gave him, distributed the ball amongst his weapons, and delivered with consistent velocity and accuracy in the quick game. Also, he was hyper-aware of the rush and seemed to constantly dodge the sack at the right time. Creel was also efficient when throwing on the run and maintained strength on his throws when on the move. He displayed athleticism in and out of the pocket and consistently created throwing lanes with his legs. As a runner, Creel is elusive in the open field and has enough quick twitch to make guys miss and be a threat on option plays. While being one of the more productive dual threats in the state, it’ll be fascinating to see if he can continue this hot streak as the playoff approaches.
Eager is a receiver with next-level size and speed and reminds me of a former McGill-Toolen standout and current NFL player Jalen Tolbert. This combination makes him a matchup nightmare and a reliable No.1 option. Though Eager possesses great top-line speed, the smoothness out of his breaks enables him to be effective at all three levels. This, in addition to the threat of beating guys deep, creates a lot of opportunities to get him the ball and be a game-wrecker. Eager displayed tremendous speed, acceleration, and home run ability while racking up 187 yards and three touchdowns on eight receptions and will certainly catch some eyes heading into the last half of the season.
Jalen Jones
Jalen Jones
Jones is a receiver who excels at taking the top off the defense and generating chunk plays as an outside option. With game-changing speed and burst, he is highly effective when working the deep ball and creating separation downfield. In open-field situations, Jones is twitchy and has a solid enough burst to create for himself in space. In addition, he proved to be adept at reading blockers and hitting creases on screens and has running back-like vision whenever he has big guys in front of him.
Williams turned in a dominant performance against Robertsdale and played up to his four-star ranking. While scoring three touchdowns on four receptions and racking up 175 yards in the first half, Williams was an easy pick for the list. Even on limited touches, Williams’s breakaway speed and ability to make guys miss was on full display. He routinely turned 5-yard screens to 50+ yard touchdowns and was an elite scoring threat whenever the ball landed in his hands.
