The area’s top 2023 running backs helped lead their team to victory in week five of the regular season. Summerville’s Marquez Spells (pictured) had his best outing of the season, rushing for 233 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Spells opened the game with a 59-yard touchdown burst on the first play from scrimmage. On his last carry of the night, the 5-10, 185-pounder raced 80 yards for a score in a 56-30 win over Goose Creek.
Oceanside Collegiate (ranked No. 2 in 2A) pulled off one of the biggest wins of week five, shutting out No. 5 5A Sumter, 28-0. In that game, running back Vaughn Blue Vaughn Blue 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Oceanside Collegiate Academy | 2023 State SC , the top-rated back in the Charleston area, rushed for 113 yards, marking the first running back to top 100 yards against a very stout Sumter defense.
Also in that OCA win, 2024 quarterback Edward Reidenbach passed for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Defensive lineman Tim Castain Tim Castain 6'1" | 240 lbs | DL Oceanside Collegiate | 2023 State SC paced the shutout effort defensively with seven tackles and three sacks.
In a losing effort, Bishop England 2023 safety Charlie Ranney turned in a remarkable defensive effort. Ranney racked up 16 tackles and recorded three pass interceptions in a loss to Philip Simmons.
Speaking of Philip Simmons, 2024 running back Isaac Schimpf had his best outing of the season, rushing for 173 yards. Teammate KJ Asbury (2024) added 82 yards rushing and two touchdowns while posting 13 tackles on defense,
Woodland 2023 dual-threat quarterback Sudarian Harrison continues to impress for the undefeated Wolverines. In a win over Colleton County, Harrison rushed for 112 yards and two scores while passing for 148 yards and three touchdowns.
Hanahan stayed unbeaten with a shutout of Porter-Gaud. 2024 running back Kevon Rivera Kevon Rivera 5'9" | 215 lbs | RB Hanahan | 2024 State SC rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns. 2025 quarterback Jaden Cummings Jaden Cummings 5'11" | 195 lbs | QB Summerville | 2025 State SC added 133 passing yards and two scores.
Hanahan is at Woodland this week in the top game of the Charleston area.
