The game went back and forth all night long going down to the wire as Peotone gained momentum late in the 4th quarter closing the gap 21 to 13. Wilmington ended up answering back quickly with a score of their own to make it 28 to 13 with a few minutes left in the game. Peotone’s James Kuypers was at the helm of the Blue Devil’s offense driving them downfield until moving the chains to get them closer to scoring position. Mr. Rivera is a shifty type of runner as a return man that flashes his ability to weave in/out of defenders to secure good starting field position for his offense. In the run game, he wasn’t utilized as much as he was on JV but don’t let that sway you away from this young man. His foot quicks through the hole and his ability to get involved in both offensive attacks make him a deadly weapon for the Blue Devils. On more than one occasion this young man was able to secure the catch in traffic and in the soft spot of the zone defenders. Here, he would take heavy hits as he’s securing the catch to keep the chains moving. As the Blue Devils showcase their aerial attack more, keep an eye on the impact this young man brings. A name you’re going to hear a lot of over these next few seasons. Twitter
Mr. Piper holds down the middle of the Blue Devil’s defensive unit out of the Mike backer position. He can close quickly in close space to make the tackle at/near the line of scrimmage on inside the tackle runs and if you try to bounce the run outside he has the ability to flow to the ball securing the open field tackle on the perimeter for a loss on the play. All in all, he’s a run stopping linebacker that has that attacking edge to him. Not to mention, on the offensive side of the ball his aggressiveness is further showcased here. He can either be a downhill runner keeping his feet driving through contact or can be used as a lead blocker to create a running lane for the wingbacks. All in all, his versatility on both sides of the ball is one to watch the rest of this fall season. College coaches are keeping watch as well as he just came away with an offer from Milikan University a few days ago. Twitter
Mr. Sroka was limited in the production he was able to accomplish in Friday night’s matchup against Wilmington. With that being said, he was able to showcase his lateral quickness to turn the corner to stay ahead of the sticks. This young man’s ability to take the handoff and break long runs is one to keep an eye on the rest of this fall season as he’s been doing so all season long up until this point. With another home game this upcoming week against talented Reed Custer, look for Mr. Sroka to bounce back and showcase why he’s a top halfback in the ICE Conference.
James Kuypers
James Kuypers
rnThis was my first time seeing Mr. Kuypers in action as a quarterback. I heard about his passing ability prior to this season but seeing it in action was impressive. For a young man that had no prior varsity QB experience, he’s really taken the reigns of this offense and controls the line of scrimmage. Once the Blue Devils opened up to the air attack, this young man was dotting up Wilmington’s defense throughout the night. When he’s able to work in platform, he can add a tight spiral on the ball into tight coverage only where his receiver can go up to get it. So much so he ended up finishing th game going 10/16 for 2 TDs and 1 INT. Out of those 6 incomplete passes, 4 of those were on the receivers not securing the catch as it went right into their hands. The accuracy he showcased is one to keep an eye on for the rest of this season, if you’re not careful it can be the Kuyper’s show like it was Friday night. He can also play safety if need be at the next level as he has prior experience there as well.
Landen Hamm
Landen Hamm
Mr. Hamm is a new name to me this fall season and one that I’m surprised slipped through the cracks. Standing at 6’3, he works as an offensive guard and consistently got a good push on the defensive tackle driving the defender back 3 to 5 yards on most plays. He can also get to 2nd level blocks to tie up the linebackers after he gets out of his stance quickly. I do want to see more out of him in pass protection as it was choppy at times throughout this contest. With that being said, this is a run blocking lineman that can get after it at the point of attack.
Rorey Hart
Rorey Hart
Mr. Hart is another up and coming Blue Devil that poses a threat in the air attack. The bread and butter of this offense is in the run game, when they focus on that this young man does get involved in blocking either the defensive back if he’s split out wide or the outside linebacker if he’s lined up as a tight end. Once Peotone switches to the air attack, that’s where Mr. Hart makes his money. As you see in the clip below, he does a good job of using his big frame to shield the defender off when running a 3 step slant to secure the catch and get in for six late in the 4th quarter. His long reach was also flashed as there were a few throws that were made only where this young man could get it and he was able to come down with it more times than not. Standing at 6’3, it gives him an advantage against most defensive backs that he’s going to face in one on one coverage. Look for the Blue Devils to exploit his mismatches in the air attack moving forward the rest of this fall season.
Marquis Walton
Marquis Walton
Another talented receiver the Blue Devils have is Mr. Walton. Now, there wasn’t any film on this young man coming into this fall season nor did Peotone really use the air attack the last few seasons. With Peotone opening up their offensive attack moreso this year than previously before, this young man is going to be another threat on the outside. Mr. Walton is another receiver that stands at 6’3 and had an impressive touchdown catch showcased below. Not only was he able to track the ball and adjust last second to secure the TD catch, he was able to get his foot in on the edge of the back endzone line – impressive to say the least. Will Peotone continue with their air attack consistently? That has yet to be answered, but just know that this young man is going to be a target on 50/50 balls on deep shots downfield along with Mr. Hart.
Mr. Cadrenas is a young man that’s been on my radar for quite some time now working as a 3 tech. It says he’s 6’2 but he’s actually only 5’11. His aggressiveness has always caught my attention when scouting this young man. His use of hands at the point of attack is what separates him from other defensive linemen in 3A football. By using his aggressive rip he’s able to get himself free to either disrupt plays in the backfield or meet the ball carrier in the hole for no gain. His ability to shed blocks is one to keep a close eye on for the rest of this falls season as he can come up with stops in crucial moments in the game when doing so. Mr. Cardenas ended up finishing the game with 7 total tackles and takes snaps as an offensive guard as well.
