5. Dylan Elrod Dylan Elrod QB Harrisburg | 2023 State – Harrisburg
I like what Elrod has been putting on the field to start this year and is making a name for himself so he cracks out at the end of my list through the midpoint of the season. Elrod has a cannon for an arm and can make some just great throws at times and doing this in AAA makes what he does even better. He is making splashes and I love to see what he does week in and week out with the talent that he shows on the field. He can be getting better as every week goes on and seems that he can not only learn from his mistakes but adapt from them in real-time. I would like to see him get some more attention on his name and have people see how talented this kid is and I think he fits in well as one of the top quarterbacks in South Dakota. I will be watching him for the rest of the year for what he has been doing
4. Lucas Slack Lucas Slack 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Brandon Valley | 2023 State – Brandon Valley
Brandon Valley is looking to get back to the level of play that they have yet to get back to as the year has gotten started but one factor that has stayed the same is the level of play that Slack and the offense have put on. Slack has been doing what he does best when he is on the field, that being an escape artist style of QB who can make the big plays and be clutch for his team. He has been showing his great chemistry with his teammate and how well the players are him on the offense are doing with them racking up yards as he does. What he does best for his team is evade the pressure that comes at him and seems to find a throw that will make his team get some good field position. Slack has been doing what he does and not much less than that, which lands him at the 4 spot where he shows us how great he is at times and is hoping to lead Brandon Valley to the success they have been having the past few years.
3. Taylen Ashley Taylen Ashley 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2023 State – Sioux Falls Jefferson
Ashley has been thriving as a player who can run out of any trouble that he gets himself and that is what makes him jump into the three spot on the list. I like what Ashley does on the field game in and out with how well he can fool defenses with the footwork that he has in his bag and making everyone on the defense look lost when he is in the zone. That brings up what makes Ashley so good, that being his high level of speed and agility that makes tackling him that defenses have a great amount of struggle doing. He has a great passing game to boot with shorter quick routes being some of his favorite. While he can throw the big pass at times he mainly likes to stick to the safe throw and prefers to rush first.
2. Bennett Dannenbring Bennett Dannenbring 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB SF O'Gorman | 2023 State – O’Gorman
It is a shame that there cannot be a tie at the number 1 spot because what Dannenbring has been doing is something that should be seen as simply out of this world. He has been throwing the football at such a high level and is having pretty much every game that he has tallying over 300 yards and at least three touchdowns a game, which for a meta in the state being a run-first system, he is showing the wayside to that. He has gone up with some of the toughest defenses and cooking them up just about every time that he does it and it is a shame that he can’t come in higher. What Dannenbring has in his system is something of a competitor and someone who is humble along with hungry when he steps on the field and when he gets into a mindset, good luck trying to stop him.
1. Lincoln Kienholz Lincoln Kienholz 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Pierre | 2023 State – Pierre TF Riggs
Coming in at number 1 is Kienholz and there is not much else to say that I or anyone else has not said about how talented this kid is. His national ranking keeps going up and impressing everyone that watches the tape every week. One thing I like to see is how he is using his speed to his advantage as the year is going on and has made teams not only worry about the air raid passing attack that they will face but also how fast and agile he is when he starts to accelerate. We all know how great he is and what he can do on the field and as much as I can see how good he is, nothing will compare to seeing him play in person and how electric his style of game is, making him South Dakota’s best QB midway through the season.
