The Bulldogs came away with the 40-29 win, moving to 3-0 on the year. Hudsonville falls to 0-3, albeit against teams that are expected to make the playoffs. Grandville, in my opinion, cemented itself as a top-tier team in the OK Conference with one of the best offenses in the area, if not the state.
The Bulldogs controlled the game from start to finish, converting every offensive possession minus garbage time for a touchdown and two-point conversion. There were several moments in the game where Hudsonville’s defense had the opportunity to apply pressure and flip the script, however, Grandville stepped up to the occasion each time and kept the drive alive. Hudsonville’s defense never seemed able to get off the field, and instead were forced to play catch-up all night. That is typically a death sentence against the Bulldogs, whose offense has a knack for eating up time of possession.
Top Performers
Tyson Mann, RB/DB, Grandville 23″
Tysonn Mann stood out to me as the player with the most complete performance. The senior running back jump-started the Bulldogs with three touchdowns in the first half, capping off each of Grandville’s drives with six points. Tyson was highly efficient between the tackles and did a great job of creating additional yards after contact. Defensively, Tyson was highly active in the Bulldog’s secondary. Tyson had several pass breakups, including a timely interception at the goal line on a play that could have just as easily resulted in a Hudsonville touchdown.
Jayden Terry Jayden Terry 5'8" | 175 lbs | RB Grandville | 2026 State MI , RB, Grandville 26″
Jayden is a great change of pace back who excels in open space and getting out to the edge. On several carries, Jayden made the initial would-be tackler miss on a juke or cut and picked up another chunk of yardage to keep the Grandville offense humming. Jayden ripped off a 15-yard touchdown run to put the game on ice in the 4th quarter, offering a glimpse of what is to come for the next four years.
Eli Vanderveen, WR, Hudsonville 23″
Going into the game, Eli Vanderveen had to of been highlighted as one of, if not the main guy Grandville schemed to stop, or at least prevent from making big plays. While the Hudsonville offense couldn’t quite keep up with Grandville’s output, Eli still racked up over 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Eli is a game breaker in the open field and that was evident as he broke off two plays for 45+ yard scores. Both pass plays resulted in him catching the ball over the middle of the field and outrunning the secondary to the endzone.
Top Unit
Grandville’s Dominant Rushing Attack
Grandville’s rushing attack looked like the most complete unit I’ve seen in person this season. They have a workhorse in Tyson Mann who can churn out short yardage gains and keep the chains moving. They also have the luxury of having Freshman Jayden “Tank” Terry psychically and mentally playing well above his age. You won’t find many freshmen in the state that has both the skillset and the mental maturity required to make an impact at the varsity level. Additionally, senior quarterback Carson Smith is another physically gifted athlete that you have to gameplan for.
