Players highlighted from Watertown:
’24 RB- Juven Hudson Juven Hudson ATH Watertown | 2024 State SD kept the offense in motion picking up good chunks of yardage on each play. He didn’t go down easy, usually needing more than one defender to bring him down. He took the handoff and attacked the gap with speed, kept good vision to find the open space after the Line of Scrimmage. He showed really good balance when shaking off tacklers and extending the play. He kept the wheels turning until the play was over.
’24 DB- Owen Spartz Owen Spartz RB Watertown | 2024 SD was a very dangerous return man on both punt and kick returns. He really flipped the field position on special teams with big returns. He showed good vision and agility when running the football, then turned on the speed when he got into space. He kept the wheels turning to grind out every yard. Defensively, he played really well in pass coverage, running with receivers and breaking up passes. He showed very good technique when the ball was in the air and a was good tackler.
’24 OL/DL- Caden Beauchamp played well on both sides of the ball. He helped the run game get in motion by driving his guy off the Line of Scrimmage to open gaps. He also gave himself a good base to get in a good pass protection position, really giving the QB time to throw. Defensively, he did a good job disrupting plays by getting in the backfield and making the RB and QB hesitate on the plays they were supposed to make.
’24 LB- Austin Johnson Austin Johnson 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB Watertown | 2024 State SD did a good job flowing all over the field to make tackles anywhere. He read his keys quickly and got to his position to make his plays. He was really good blitzing, timed up snaps well and helped disrupted the offense’s flow and making them very uncomfortable on each play. He really got up to speed and laid hits on the ballcarriers, wrapped up and drove them into the ground.
’23 WR/DB- Jesse Werner was a very good defender in the flats and deep in pass coverage. He moved well laterally and vertically to cover all areas of the field. He was a very sure-handed tackler to make tackles in the open field on the perimeter, really taking away the small-ball game. Offensively, he stepped up and became a good target for the QB to give the offense a big play when they needed it.
Players Highlighted from Huron:
’23 LB- Beauty Moon had his hand in on a lot of tackles for the Tiger defense. His instincts led him to the play on most the run plays and he filled quickly and effectively to be the first guy to the ball on each play. He wrapped up tight when he got to the football and did not let him escape. He was the guy that was always the last one up from the pile that he created on the tackle. He kept good pad level to take on and shake off blocks/
’23 OL/DL- Elliot DeVries was very disruptive for the opposing offense’s run game. He took his gap away completely to make the offense stay away from his side. He was quick off the snap and kept his pad level low, making him really hard to block. When he got to the ball, he made a really good, strong tackle. Offensively, he seemed to lead the way for the run game, being the blocker to run behind with his drive and strength. Also a good pass blocker as well.
’23 WR/DB- CJ Gainey was the playmaker in the pass game. He was the primary target and that made him pull in a lot of passes. He has a lot of speed that helps him get open, he runs good routes to get more space as well. If a defender can stick with him, he can jump over them and has the strength to pull the ball away from the defender.
’23 RB- Quinston Luellman-Clark did a real good job getting positive yardage for the offense. Being a little undersized, he really took the fight to the defense. He took the handoff, lowered his head and ran full-speed ahead. He would run through a defender before he’d make a move on them. He had a good burst of speed to get into open space and kept charging forward until he was brought down.
