Grandville and Hudsonville face one another to get conference play started in the OK Red. The Bulldogs are off to a 2-0 start this season behind a running game that has overwhelmed defenses for two straight weeks. Meanwhile, Hudsonville is searching for its first win of the season after dropping tough ones against two power programs from the east side of the state in Saline and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
Players To Watch
Tyson Mann, RB/KR, Grandville 23”
Tyson leads the OK Red with five total touchdowns through two weeks of play. Four of those scores have come on the ground behind the Bulldog’s highly touted rushing attack. The senior back excels between the tackles and out in space. Getting consistent production from Tyson will be a key to tonight’s game and the rest of the season.
Jayden “Tank” Terry, RB/DB, Grandville 26”
Tank has been the change of pace back for the Bulldogs so far this season and has made the most of every opportunity doing so. Listed at 5’8, Tank is shifty and elusive in the open field. Defensively, Tank is already a play-defender in the Bulldogs’ secondary. He’s shown the ability to cover ground quickly and separate opposing wideouts from the ball. Keep an eye out for Tank on special teams, as he has big play potential every time he touches the ball.
Trey Carr, QB, Hudsonville 23”
Trey is one of the area’s more seasoned quarterbacks, and at the moment, has been the do-it-all guy on offense for the Eagles. Through two weeks, Trey has scored every touchdown for Hudsonville, which includes one passing and three rushing scores. Although Hudsonville has struggled a bit offensively (14.5 ppg), Trey remains a dual-threat presence that can move the ball downfield with consistency.
Eli Vanderveen, WR/DB, Hudsonville 23”
Eli has been Trey’s go-to target so far this season and should get another heavy workload in tonight’s matchup. Standing at 6’5, Eli is a big-bodied wideout who excels in one-on-one matchups down the sideline. Hudsonville will need Vanderveen to establish himself as a mismatch if the Eagles hope to come away with their first win of the season.
Keys To The Game
Grandville’s been able to wear down their opponents with its ground game through two weeks and will look to do the same against a Hudsonville team that is searching for some positivity after starting the season 0-2. We’ll see what if the Eagles can slow down an offense that recently put up nearly 600 yards on the ground in week one. With their backs against the wall, Hudsonville will have no choice but to match Grandville offensively if they hope to pull off the upset.
Prediction: Grandville 35, Hudsonville 26
