As is typical, we found no shortage of huge games from players across the state, so to narrow down our player of the week conversations, we decided to focus on the unranked prospects. Certainly all of these players will find themselves in the rankings after the season and we can’t wait to dive into the film in a few weeks.
Ben Mauney
Ben Mauney
Mauney put up fantastic numbers, completing 23 of 25 passes for nearly 400 yards and five touchdowns. His accuracy was on display all game as he spread the ball around to several pass catchers. He was calm in the face of pressure and delivered with great touch on several intermediate and deep passes, going through his progressions quickly and almost always finding the open man.
Eric Rasheed
Eric Rasheed
Apparently I’m late to the party with Rasheed, who had a fantastic junior season and picked up Friday where he left off. He caught seven passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, but his contributions to the win didn’t stop there. He also added a huge kickoff return and had an interception as well. Add to that a couple of completed two-point conversions and you have a dominant performance in all three phases.
Jaylen Alexander-Raynor
Jaylen Alexander-Raynor
Alexander-Raynor had a productive day as a quarterback, throwing for 170 yards and three touchdowns. However, it was his production on the ground that made this a performance for the ages. Despite running just 11 times, Alexander-Raynor put up 343 yards on the ground, good for an average of over 30 yards per rush. I’m looking for big things from the East Forsyth signal-caller on an offense that I really like; I’ll be watching the rest of the year.
Jason Willis
Jason Willis
Willis played well in limited action as a freshman, running for 290 yards and a couple of touchdowns last year. In his first game as a sophomore, he bested those numbers with 295 yards and four touchdowns on just 20 carries. He was unstoppable, showing excellent vision and breaking a number of tackles in the open field. If he’s going to continue playing like this, he has serious college potential.
