On Monday I took a look at some of the new additions to the 2023 rankings. Today I'll take a look at some of the players who saw their stock rise the most this offseason.

North Union's [player_tooltip player_id='284446' first='Owen' last='Davis'] was a late bloomer. He showed his versatility playing several positions throughout his high school career before settling in at linebacker. At 6'3 230 Davis's athleticism and speed are plus for his size. He started picking up heavy interests from the MAC conference before Purdue bit and offered him in mid-May. Davis would go onto commit a few weeks later. I think there's a good chance that Davis will end up sliding down to Weakside DE position at the college. I expect him to continue to fill out and finish somewhere in the 260 range. With Davis's strength and athleticism coupled with Purdue's track record of developing high level pass rushers this seems like a match made in heaven.

This spring I had the opportunity to see Northmont's hybrid linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='284440' first='Nigel' last='Glover'] participate in the Under Armour event down in Obetz, Ohio. Glover fits the mold for what coaches want when it comes to what a linebacker should be in a 4-2-5 defense. At 6'3 210 Glover can flip his hips and run with ease. He's a strong match up in the passing game versus Tight Ends and Running Backs and will be able to cover bigger wide receivers. This versatility and talent did not go unnoticed as he picked up Big Ten offers from Rutgers, Iowa, and Northwestern. In March Glover committed to Pat Fitzgerald's Northwestern Wildcats.

Keystone high school's [player_tooltip player_id='141071' first='Ryne' last='Shackelford'] is a big play threat anytime he lines up at wide receiver. The explosive playmaker put his top shelf speed on display during his spring track season by running a 10.66 100 meter dash. He also earned a state championship for division 2-3 in the long jump (22'8"). That speed and explosiveness coupled with a good length, helped Shackelford pick up D1 offers from Toledo and Kent State in January. He then picked up his first P5 offer from Purdue, and he wasted no time committing to the Boilermakers.

During and following his junior season [player_tooltip player_id='189484' first='Grant' last='Zimmerly'] started to gain a lot of recruiting momentum. That momentum started with a good deal of interests from the MAC conference as well as some from Cincinnati. The 6'5 280-pound offensive lineman could play either guard or tackle at the next level. He possesses good feet and attacks his blocks in the running game opening sizable holes. In March of 2022 the Perrysburg native picked up a local offer from the University of Toledo after which he quickly committed to the Rockets.

Trey Cornist

In 2021 [player_tooltip player_id='274390' first='Trey' last='Cornist'] finished second in the Southwest Ohio Conference in rushing as a running back for the Mount Healthy Owls. Fast forward to 2022 and Cornist is now enrolled and a member of the defending state champion Winton Woods Warriors. Cornist will look to fill the shoes of the dynamic Tyrek Spikes who graduated this spring. Trey is a bull of a back. At 6'1 215 he can not only run through you, but he can around you. I saw the Warriors in a 7 on 7 last month where the big back put a defensive back on the ground with a quick juke move. Despite Cornist's tremendous upside he flew under the radar until after his junior season, getting interests from group of 5 schools. This continued until June when he made an official visit to Georgia Tech where he was offered and accepted a scholarship to play for the Yellow Jackets. A key player in the recruitment of Cornist was Georgia Tech's running backs coach Mike Daniels. Daniels is a former high school head coach in the Cincinnati area.

One of the biggest risers in the 2023 class was Toledo Central Catholic's [player_tooltip player_id='274825' first='Braden' last='Awls'], who rose nearly 40 spots. Awls recruitment really took off this spring. Awls is a smooth athlete with strong ball skills. He does a great job of reading the quarterbacks eyes and breaking on the ball. This past season you could almost see him bait opposing QB's into throws. As a junior he tallied 5 interceptions, 2 of which he returned for touchdowns! Awls started picking up major interests from the MAC conference and ended up committing to the University of Toledo. Awls will play safety for the Rockets.
