Continue ReadingThe great state of Ohio is never short when it comes to football talent. So if you’re looking for some hidden gem-type prospects, well, then you came to the right place. Today, I shifted my focus to some of the state’s top rising junior sleepers. These young men all saw varsity action as sophomores and flourished in their roles. Their highlight tapes showed a wide array of intangibles that could easily translate to the next level. From a recruitment standpoint, only one prospect featured currently has a division one offer (Xavier Dahn), but that could soon change with some big junior campaigns. Keep an eye out for these guys this fall and beyond. With all that being said, here’s who you need to know!
ATH: Quaid Hauer, 6’2″ 215, Wyoming
- Sinks into his hook/curl, reading the quarterback’s intentions.
- Plays a hard-nosed, downhill brand of football.
- Has the burst and closing speed to track down opposing ball carriers.
LB: Maverick Clark, 6’2″ 220, Washington
- Is a destructive block shedder at the point of attack.
- Engulfs ball carriers between the tackles.
- Plays with a low pad level and does a good job speeding his feet on contact.
WR: Isaiah Smith, 6′ 160, Western Brown
- An absolute mismatch working against linebackers and rolled-up safeties in the slot.
- Stacks defenders immediately after beating them downfield.
- Tremendous balance to make something happen after the catch.
DB: CJ Frasco, 5’11” 175, Ursuline
- Shows the anticipation of a polished veteran.
- Understands pass concepts & how offenses try to exploit zone droppers.
- Is a major playmaker that can create splash plays against the run or pass.
WR: Jeffery Bishop, 5’11” 175, Portsmouth West
- Is extremely slippery after the catch.
- Speed can kick in at a moment’s notice to blaze past defenders with an angle on him.
- Has the hands and body control to adjust & make a play on poorly thrown balls.
- Releases are awfully explosive and, at times, will put defenders on skates.
DE: Xavier Dahn, 6’2″ 225, Ursuline
- Hands are sharp and ready to go at all times.
- Does a good job retracing his steps as a rusher.
- Fights to stay outside against reach blocks in outside zone schemes.
OLB: Mason Penrod, 6′ 190, Miamisburg
- Is the hammer not the nail when taking on pullers.
- Is quite sudden when he reads run and shows no issues tackling in space.
- Scrapes down the line the backside with his shoulders square, stealing tackles.
