This season, a good number of QBs are set to start for the first time, while others are 2+ year starters looking to build off of last season. In this article, I’ll be outlining 4 of the most intriguing QBs in Grand Rapids!
Mac VandenHout Mac VandenHout 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Rockford | 2023 State MI – QB – Rockford
A majorly anticipated debut, Mac VandenHout Mac VandenHout 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Rockford | 2023 State MI will take the reigns for one of the best programs in the West, filling the shoes of now Ferris St. QB Zak Ahern. My take on Mac is this; I’m cautiously optimistic. He’s got all the physicals of a great athlete, and he’s worked his butt off this offseason while performing in many 7 on 7’s. I’ve seen a little bit of scrimmage tape, which included some good and some bad things. East Grand Rapids should be a great 1st test before an amazing Mona Shores team in week 2.
Tommy Stevens Tommy Stevens 5'8" | 175 lbs | QB Grand Rapids Union | 2023 MI – Grand Rapids Union
Stevens is an electric dual-threat QB that can defeat you in many ways. Last year, he had some amazing escape artist moments but also displayed some hiccups. This season, coming off a big injury, I want to see Stevens get the ball out faster, be less jumpy In the pocket, and most importantly, take care of the football. If Tommy Stevens Tommy Stevens 5'8" | 175 lbs | QB Grand Rapids Union | 2023 MI can lead this team to the playoffs like I think he can, he’ll be a Union Legend.
Colton Bosch – Coopersville
A slowly rising program, Coopersville was red-hot in the beginning of last season, going 5-0 before finishing 6-4. Now heading into this season, Senior QB Colton Bosch has a great chance to be the best QB in the OK-Blue, and as a matter of fact, a rare returning QB in the Blue. When I watched Coopersville face Allendale last season, Bosch made more than a few amazing touch passes and always remained calm in the pocket. I’m excited to see what he can do this season, and I’m interested to see how Coopersville performs in the Blue.
Connor Wolf Connor Wolf 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI – Grand Rapids Catholic Central
One of the most anticipated debuts in the State, Connor Wolf Connor Wolf 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI takes over the most dominant program in the state with sky-high expectations. Seriously, it’s State Championship or BUST for Catholic Central, and much of the team’s success falls on Wolf. I’m incredibly confident in Wolf, though, as time after time this offseason, he’s outperformed the competition and turned many heads.
