The summer is here, and now that official visits are done until later in the fall, prospects across the peach state are starting to make their college commitments. It’s one of the biggest decisions young prospects have to make, and many knew early on where they wanted to play at the next level. Last week we saw multiple prospects pull the trigger and make their college commitments.
[player_tooltip player_id="321422" first="Ny" last="Carr"] - WR - Colquitt County
One of the top WR prospects in the entire 2024 class across the country, Carr is a big-play waiting to happen with plenty of speed and explosiveness. He earned an offer from the in-state Georgia Bulldogs earlier this year and it didn’t take long for the South Georgia star to make his commitment to the Bulldogs. Carr was very early in his recruitment, but he knew he wanted to play for his "dream school" at the University of Georgia. A quick twitchy receiver who runs a great route, Carr is one of the leading returning receivers in 7A this fall, catching 40 passes for 856 yards and 13 touchdowns last fall as a sophomore. He can torch defenses with his speed and knows how to create separation on his own. He can line up on the outside, in the slot, and can help in the return game on special teams as well. He’s electric with the ball in his hands and will likely put up big numbers once again as a junior. He has an incredibly bright future in Athens when the time comes.

[player_tooltip player_id="220729" first="Landen" last="Thomas"] - TE - Colquitt County
Like Carr, Thomas is one of the top overall prospects across the 2024 class, and he also made his commitment to the University of Georgia this week. A big-bodied pass catcher with size and athleticism, Thomas runs like a deer and has SEC-caliber size at 6-foot-3 235-pounds. He’s a big weapon in the red-zone and knows how to bring tough a tough reception in tight coverage. He uses his frame well against smaller defenders and shows big, strong hands in the passing game. He’s a strong run blocker on the edge, but his ability to make plays as a pass-catching tight end is what makes him one of the very best tight end prospects not only in Georgia, but across the country. Thomas is ranked as the No. 10 prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class.

[player_tooltip player_id="220716" first="Shamurad" last="Umarov"] - OT - Denmark
One of the top offensive tackle prospects in the 2023 class across Georgia, Umarov has a high ceiling and has the chance to turn into a solid, reliable tackle at the next level. After earning offers from some impressive programs across the country, the Denmark standout chose the Tennessee Volunteers as his college destination over the weekend. He’s a big, strong tackle at 6-foot-6 300+ pounds and plays for one of the most respected high school coaching staffs in Georgia. He moves well for his size, he’s a dominant run blocker, and developing more and more as a pass protector. He’s one of the top offensive line prospects in the area and now he’s headed to Tennessee.

Martel Height - WR - Rome
One of the top two-way prospects in all of North Georgia, Height was once committed to Louisville, but recently had a change of heart. Now, the playmaking receiver is taking his talents to Nashville to play for the Vanderbilt Commodores. The 6-foot-0 175-pounder has great hands and consistently shows that he’s one of the top athletes on the field at all times. A quick, twitchy prospect, he reacts quickly in coverage and knows how to make a play on the ball. His strong, reliable hands allow him to be a productive receiver, catching 62 passes for 1,069 yards and nine touchdowns last fall. He’s a deep threat down the field with impressive ball skills and a knack for making plays. He’ll be one of the top receivers in the state once again and has his eyes set on a possible state championship at the end of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id="326295" first="River" last="Hanson"] - DB - Woodward Academy
A hard-hitting safety with range, Hanson is a dynamic defensive back from Atlanta who excels against the run. Playing on an extremely talented defense, Hanson was able to make a giant impact both against the run and against the pass, making 75 tackles and 3 INTs as a junior last fall. After earning multiple D1 offers, the 6-foot-1 200-pounder decided to commit to Duke over teams like Boston College, Akron, Boston College, among others. He chases down the ball carrier with ease and has plenty of length on his frame. He looks the party physically and he’ll bring toughness and sure-tackling to the Blue Devil defense down the road.
