It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July, we are publishing 100 team previews to get you ready for the 2022 season. This is something that began last year and has become even bigger and better this year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champs, to top contenders and dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A down to A. In this post, we take a look at the Edmond Memorial Bulldogs. This is a program that has struggled over the last few seasons but we’re expecting a breakout season this fall for the Bulldogs.
Edmond Memorial Bulldogs (6A-1 Preseason Ranking: #9)
So it’s no secret that Edmond Memorial has not had a lot of success on the field over the last few seasons. They went winless in 2020 and then 1-9 last season. However, with 17 starters back and only graduating a few starters, we think that the Bulldogs have a chance to not only be on the rise this year but over the next few seasons with a talented roster full of young players. Last year, as we mentioned, things did not go well on the field in the first season for head coach Logan Thomas as he took over his alma mater. But it was step one to building a program back from the ground up. They would go 1-9 but three of those losses were by seven points or less. Behind a very talented roster and going into year two under Thomas, the Bulldogs are hoping to not only put a few more wins together but potentially fight for one of the playoff spots in 6A-1.
That last part is going to be a tough task as Union, Owasso, Mustang and Edmond Santa Fe are all ahead of them in the rankings and are in the same district. However, if the Bulldogs can pull off an upset over one of those teams, they could end up stealing one of those playoff spots. Nine starters return from last year’s team on the offensive side of the ball, including one of the top young quarterbacks in the state and plenty of playmakers around him. On the defense, eight starters return and they’ll be strengthened by a defensive line unit that has the chance to be pretty special this fall. We think that not only does Edmond Memorial bounce back this fall, but they bounce back in a big way and if they win a game or two against some of those opponents mentioned, they might even punch their ticket to the playoff. A lot of football will be played between now and then.

. He’s already a top five overall prospect in the state’s 2025 class and is currently the top quarterback in the class. He’s had an outstanding offseason. Every time we’ve seen him, he throws one of the best balls in the state and his ceiling as a prospect is incredibly high. Last year, McComb took over the QB1 spot about halfway thru the year and finished the season strong. He’s hoping to have an even better sophomore season. There’s no doubt that he has plenty of hype around him at this point and we’re looking forward to seeing what he does this fall.

when it comes to the next level. Whether it’s playing like a rhino at running back or being one of the hardest hitting linebackers in the state, Mullins is a prospect to watch within the 2023 class. On offense, Mullins was not just a bulldozer at running back, he showed plenty of versatility. He finished with 600 yards on the ground and another 550 yards receiving. He would score eight touchdowns on the season and also added nearly 100 tackles on defense. We think that Mullins is one of the better linebackers in a 2023 class that is full of good linebackers.

is one of the more versatile athletes in Oklahoma’s 2023 class. He began the season last year at quarterback and ended it at defensive back. He could play quite a few positions within the Edmond Memorial defense and the Bulldogs plan on taking advantage of that. Whether he’s lined up more as a safety or if he comes up and plays closer to the line of scrimmage at linebacker, he’s going to be a problem for opposing offenses. He’s fast, long and very athletic. He’s definitely a 2023 prospect to keep an eye on this fall.

2022 Schedule/Games To Circle
Aug. 26 – Moore
Sept. 2 – Deer Creek
Sept. 9 – Edmond North
Sept. 16 – AT Southmoore
Sept. 23 – Edmond Santa Fe
– In week four, district play opens up all across the state. Edmond Memorial will host Edmond rival Santa Fe and despite it only being week four, this will go a long way to deciding certain playoff seeds. The Bulldogs are hoping to be in contention for one of the four playoff spots coming out of this district when November rolls around. If they’re going to be in contention, they have to handle their business against Edmond Santa Fe and then in the next few weeks. If they pull off a win over one of those top four teams, they can’t then fall short against one of the other teams within their district or they’re going to need help to make the playoffs.
Sept. 30 – AT Norman
Oct. 7 – AT Yukon
Oct. 21 – AT Owasso
Oct. 28 – AT Union
Nov. 4 – Mustang
– In the final week of the regular season, after going on the road to face Owasso and Union in back to back weeks, the Bulldogs will return home to host another top five team in Mustang. At this point, Edmond Memorial will know exactly where they stand when it comes to the playoff picture and they’ll know whether or not a win will get them in or if they’re going to need help or if they’re just out. But nevertheless, the Bulldogs will have an opportunity here to face a Mustang team that has an explosive offense and is hungry to contend for state. Some of those young Bulldog players will be veterans at this point and they’ll need to play like it.
Notable
All three Edmond schools used to play their football games on the campus of UCO in Edmond. However, all three schools now have their own stadiums on campus and no longer have to get on a bus for home games. For Edmond Memorial, their stadium opened up in 2019 and they’ve had three seasons of playing home games on their own campus. However, with the Bulldog football program struggling lately, Edmond Memorial is still waiting to christen their stadium the right way. In three seasons, the Bulldogs are winless in their home stadium and are still searching for that first ever win. Over the last three seasons, Edmond Memorial has just two wins and coincidentally both came against Enid and both came on the road.
