The state of Virginia is one of the most talented states in the country and has a long history of producing dominant athletes in every sport, including football. There are numerous towns and cities across the talent-rich state including the larger metropolitan areas of Norfolk, Richmond, Northern Virginia, Roanoke, and more. Here is the Pre-Season First Team Virginia 5A All State Defense.
<strong><span class="pn-player-link"><span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="290141" first="Miles" last="Greene"]</span></span> | 6’3’’ 240 lbs | Defensive Line | Highland Springs High School </strong>
Greene will lead a fully loaded Highland Springs defense into the fall with hopes for a championship run. He is a recent University of Virginia commit, who earned First Team All Metro and All Region as a Defensive Lineman last season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="290293" first="Jason" last="Abbey"] | 6’4’’ 225 lbs | Defensive Line | Douglas Freeman High School</strong>
Abbey was named Honorable Mention All Metro and Second Team All Region Defense last year. Abbey, who recently committed to Virginia Tech, looks to lead Freeman High School to another successful season. Last year, the Mavericks finished 9-3 before being eliminated in the 2nd Round of the State Playoffs by Highland Springs.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="129105" first="David" last="Anderson"] | 6’4’’ 255 lbs | Defensive Line | Kecoughtan High School</strong>
Anderson, who is a recent Duke commit, was a force on both sides of the ball for Kecoughtan High School last fall. The Warriors look to improve on last season’s First Round Playoff appearance. While Kecoughtan didn’t have a spectacular season, Anderson and the Warriors defense managed to hold opposing teams to an average of only 14 points a game.

Mensah was awarded to the All Region Team last fall. He tallied 51 Tackles, 46 Assisted tackles, 16 Tackles for a Loss, and 6.5 Sacks. He currently has offers from Boston College, Wake Forest, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion, West Virginia, and Charlotte.
<strong><span class="pn-player-link"><span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="368778" first="MarcAnthony" last="Parker"]</span></span> | 6’1’’ 220 lbs | Linebacker | Riverbend High School </strong>
Parker was named 2nd Team All Area Linebacker last fall. He accounted for 102 Total Tackles, 10 Tackles For a Loss, 1 Forced Fumbles, 2 Recovered Fumbles, 2 Sacks, 6 QB Hurries, 2 Interceptions, 1 Pass Break Up, and 1 Pick Six. He holds offers from Elon, Maine, James Madison, Lehigh, Fordham, Dartmouth, Navy, Towson, Bucknell, William and Mary, and Penn.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="293566" first="Kristopher" last="Jones"] | 6’2’’ 225 lbs | Linebacker | Mountain View High School</strong>
Jones is the Top Linebacker and overall prospect in the state for the Class of 2024. He holds offers from over two dozen Power Five programs including Georgia, Notre Dame, Maryland, Virginia, Arizona State, Louisville, Penn State, and Ohio State.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="363133" first="Chris" last="Cole"] | 6’3’’ 190 lbs | Linebacker | Salem High School</strong>
Cole was a key part to the Spartans defense that held opponents to under 12 points per game, 7 games where teams scored under 7 points, an 11-2 record, and an appearance in the State Semi- Finals before losing to Broad Run. Cole looks to have an equally impactful season and is already off to a great start, earning an offer from Virginia Tech this summer.
<strong><span class="pn-player-link"><span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="290143" first="Quran" last="Boyd"]</span></span> | 5’10’’ 185 lbs | Defensive Back | Kempsville High School </strong>
Boyd was named 2nd Team All Region and All Beach District DB last season. He led the defense to a 9-2 finish where they only gave up an average of 10 points per game. The Kempsville athlete, who is a Duke University commit, contributed with 20 Tackles, 5 Tackles For a Loss, 3 Interceptions, 14 Pass Break ups, and 2 pick sixes. Boyd’s speed is worth noting, as he is also a Region Champion and State Qualifier in the 55 meter with a time of 6.6 seconds
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="128430" first="Braylon" last="Johnson"] | 6’1’’ 160 lbs | Defensive Back | Highland Springs High School </strong>
Johnson, who is another Virginia Tech commit, was a force for Highland Springs last season and huge part of why they are arguably one of the best defensive backfields in the state. He earned 1st Team All Region and 2nd Team All Metro honors last fall.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="290291" first="Deuce" last="Geter"] | 6’ 200 lbs | Defensive Back | Stone Bridge High School</strong>
Geter was named First Team All Region and All District this past season. He led 5A State Champions with 74 Tackles, 5 Tackles For A Loss, 2 Interceptions, 5 Pass Break Ups, 4 Forced Fumbles, and 1 Fumble Recovery. He currently has offers from Campbell, Sacred Heart, Stonehill, Penn, and Bucknell
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="358201" first="Jakeyse" last="Graves"] | 6’ 165 lbs | Defensive Back | Indian River High School</strong>
Graves is the 2nd ranked overall player in the state and the top ranked athlete in the Class of 2025. He earned Second Team All Region DB as a Freshmen playing varsity. Graves has been receiving the attention of college coaches as early as his 8th grade year, and now has over a dozen college offers from Jackson State, Maryland, South Carolina, Bowling Green, Ole Miss, Temple, Syracuse, Boston College, Buffalo, Virginia Tech, Duke, and Campbell.

Jenkins is the 2nd Ranked DB in the Class of 2024 and another athlete from an outrageously talented Highland Springs secondary. He holds offers from South Carolina, James Madison, Alabama A and M, Ole Miss, Pitt, Syracuse, Indiana, Coastal Carolina, Penn State, Miami (OH), Old Dominion, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Duke, Boston College, West Virginia, and Marshall.
