With prominent programs like Chandler, Saguaro, and Hamilton leading the charge, the state clearly has a presence on a national level. Well, today, we shifted our focus to the quarterback position, looking at AZ’s best 2024 signal callers without an offer. Every prospect featured in this piece were contributors at the varsity level as sophomores and flashed plenty of potential. Look for them to have an even better junior campaign, and I wouldn’t be shocked if a few of them picked up some offers because of it. With that being said, here’s who to watch for!
Jack Germaine, 6’1″ 185, Mountain View
- Highly accurate, not throwing a single interception in 2021.
- Has the zip to make tight-window throws.
- Masterful throwing off-platform.
- Puts plenty of air under his vertical ball for his target to run underneath.
Rowan McKenzie, 6’2″ 185, Boulder Creek
- Shows a bigtime arm with the deep ball touch to go with it.
- Eyes remain looking downfield when climbing the pocket.
- Dual-threat tendencies gives defenses major issues.
- Never say die mentality.
Zechariah Owens, 6’3″ 175, Glendale
- Well-trained footwork.
- Arm talent seems to be no issue.
- Shows some serious speed for a quarterback.
- Quick set-up bodes well with his backyard style of play outside the pocket.
- Has a ton of upside in the QB run game.
Luke Moga, 6’2″ 190, Sunnyslope
- Turns into a matador against free rushers.
- Squares his shoulder towards his target when throwing on the run.
- Steady ball placement.
- A natural playmaker that can make something happen at whatever position you put him at.
Charlie McGinnis, 6’2″ 205, Brophy Prep
- Can generate enough torque to drive vertical throws on a line when need be.
- Catch 1,2 thrower on the fade ball.
- Calm and cool while working through his progression.
- Routinely gashes defenses with throws of 20-yard plus when the pocket collapses.
Braesen Leon, 6’ 175, Macros de Niza
- Tough as nails against the blitz.
- Proved that he can still make plays with poor line play.
- Knows how to identify favorable matchups pre-snap.
- Short-intermediate throws are placed right on the numbers.
Jack Atkinson, 6’2″ 190, Scottsdale Christian
- Willing to sit in the pocket while working to his third or fourth read.
- Uses his eyes to hold safeties.
- Poise and Command throughout.
- Eats up two high safeties with the bender on four verticals.
