The event brought out some of the top players from the DMV area and surrounding states. The Top Performers from the event earn an invite to the All-American Challenge that will be held July 9-10 at West Cabarrus High School in Concord, NC. Here are some of the Top Running Backs and Fastest Athletes from the VTO Sports Richmond Camp.
Tony Cammarota | 6’ 215 lbs | Running Back | Woodgrove High School | Class of 2023
Cammarota was named to the All LoCo (Loudon County) Team, October Athlete of the Month, and 1st Team All District RB last fall. His camp performance earned him an invite to VTO ’s Elite 100 Showcase along with being named Running Back MVP. The Woodgrove Junior ball carrier, who is also a 1st Team All District Outfielder, ran a 4.58 40 yard dash, was clocked at a top end speed of 21.81 Miles Per Hour, and leaped 29.1 in the vertical test. Cammarota has a 3.51 GPA and is currently receiving interest from Colgate, Penn, Davidson, and Brown.
Darryl Wilson | 5’10’’ 170 lbs | Athlete | Norcom High School | Class of 2024
Wilson displayed great athleticism and took home the title of the Fastest Man Award. The Norcom sophomore athlete tied for the fastest time in the 40 yard dash with a 4.45, but was able to separate himself as the sole fastest athlete in the Tie Breaker. Wilson also clocked in at a top end speed of 21.94 Miles Per Hour.
Alec Hughes | 6’2’’ 190 lbs | Athlete | Woodgrove High School | Class of 2023
Hughes was another athlete that earned Elite 100 status at the camp. The speedy athlete tied for the fastest time in the 40 yard dash with a time of 4.45 seconds, and finished 2nd in the tie breaker earning him the Fastest man Runner Up. However, he was clocked in as having the fastest top end speed with being able to get up to 22.5 Miles Per Hour. Hughes is equally as dynamic in the classroom as he is on the field. He has a 4.02 GPA and is receiving interest from Dartmouth and Wake Forest.
Keith Ayron Norton | 5’10’’ 180 lbs | Running Back | Benedictine High School | Class of 2025
Norton earned Top 3 Running Back honors at the VTO Sports Showcase last week. Benedictine High School’s football team is in good hands with Norton having 3 more seasons. 8-4 and the VISAA State Championship before losing in overtime to Trinity Episcopal
Evan Buchanan | 5’5’’ 140 lbs | Running Back | Mechanicsville High School | Class of 2023
Buchanan was another Running Back that earned an Elite 100 invite and made Top 3 within his position group. The Mechanicsville junior is a small shifty back that has the ability to find a crease in a defense and expose it. Mechanicsville is in the rebuilding stages of their program and only won two games last year. However, their offense did manage to average approximately 24 points a game with Buchanan.
