Enjoy! From a combination of day 1 and day 2, there were several players that we saw at Rejoice Christian team camp from May 31st-June 1st. What was expected to be a rainy day turned out to be a great mid-morning in Owasso. Rejoice Christian was host to Cascia, Cashion, Tulsa Hale, Berryhill, East Central, Kellyville, Metro, NOAH, Pawhuska, Sperry, Victory, and Woodland. Now is a great time to check out the site and see who has been standing out over the last few days in Oklahoma. This coverage is from day two on a beautiful Wednesday morning. If you didn't get a chance to see Day 1 at Rejoice Christian Team Camp please click the link to view it. Jalen Baker - 2023 RB - Victory Christian We had an opportunity to check out Jalen Baker through Friday Film Review this spring and we liked what we saw on tape back then. Other than attending a game last year versus Verdigris, this was my first opportunity to see Baker in person since week 3 of 2021. Baker had a great camp at running back. He was quick with his footwork and could hit a small hole with a burst. Baker showed he has balance along with a good base. It was great to be able to watch him play running back as most of his clips in the spring I watched were on defense. Baker is patient and once he hits the opening, he hits it hard. It was challenging for anyone to get hands-on with him out in open space. There were even times when he was in constricted space but would make a quick side step and was out. Looking forward to seeing Baker playing more running back his senior year. [player_tooltip player_id="157515" first="Chance" last="Wilson"] - 2023 QB - Rejoice Christian There's a lot of talk about Wilson coming back to lead the Eagles at quarterback this upcoming season. This was my first opportunity to look at Wilson for the position in person. Wilson looks good in the pocket and getting to the edge is where he excels with his feet. Wilson always kept his eyes downfield and his feet moving constantly. Wilson throws the short intermediate route like another day in the office with precision passing. If the pocket collapses or Wilson sees a void in the defense, he is deadly with his speed to take off without any hesitation. The Eagles have designed plays for a quarterback draw out of empty and other schemes to utilize his running ability. Wilson and Rejoice looked good both days of camp and look forward to the upcoming season. [player_tooltip player_id="38802" first="Tagg" last="Campbell"] - 2023 Athlete - Metro Christian Another Metro Christian athlete that we want to talk about is [player_tooltip player_id="38802" first="Tagg" last="Campbell"] from Metro Christian. What we like about Campbell is that he is a utility player that can play any skill position out on the field on both sides of the ball. He can line up at linebacker, cornerback, running back, or wide receiver. Campbell has great ball skills to go along with vision and speed. When he gets to the open field he is hard to track down. On several occasions from both days of camp, Campbell made great runs between the tackles and out in open space. He showed that he is a jack of all trades by utilizing his skill in catching the ball out in the backfield. Last season, Campbell played inside linebacker and was aggressive getting downhill. This year, he played cornerback in camp and likes to play physical up tight on a wide receiver. He looks to have a good backpedal and his transition on flipping his hips look crisp. Cooper Lai - 2023 QB /Safety- Cascia Hall Cascia Hall's Cooper Lai was exciting to watch in the camp setting out at Rejoice. Whether he was throwing a pass to a receiver or screaming down in the alley making a play out in the flat, he was all over the field. Lai attacks the ball and is an aggressive playmaker for Cascia on the defensive side of the ball. Numerous times throughout the day, Lai would attack the flat and break up the pass play. He also made a few tackles for no gains. I was impressed by how he flew around to the ball and moved out in space. On the offensive side of the ball, Lai throws a tight spiral and can sling the ball around. He has a soft touch on his deep throws and has a good intermediate game. Lai has a couple of offers to play at the next level and I would expect him to pick up some more interest this summer and fall. [player_tooltip player_id="189939" first="Jackson" last="Rhodes"] - 2024 Athlete - Woodland Rhodes is a prospect that I had the opportunity to watch his highlights during Friday Film Review back early soring. From Woodland High School, Rhodes is the younger brother of [player_tooltip player_id="189937" first="Aidan" last="Rhodes"]. He even went in to play quarterback like his brother and tossed the ball around with ease. His primary positions on offense are at tight end or wide receiver. He uses his body to shield off defenders to make plays and brings the ball to his body quickly to gain possession. The biggest thing that I liked about Rhodes was that he went up to high point the ball. Rhodes is a big target and has a wide radius in catching his passes. On the defensive side, he plays at safety, and with his frame, he can cover a lot of field and ground. Rhodes looked good in coverage and came downhill in the run game for his run fits. Baxter Robertson - 2023 OLB - Cascia Hall Cascia Hall comes into the 2022 season with players on both sides of the ball. One of those players that stood out to me was Robertson while he was playing outside linebacker. He was athletic coming off the edge disrupting the quarterback both days. Robertson was all over the field making plays, batting balls at the line of scrimmage, and showing good pass-rushing capabilities. His ability to play physically helped set the tone for the defense. Robertson was in the backfield quickly because he has a good get-off from the first movement of the ball. He uses his hands to gain separation and gets off the block well. We liked the play from Robertson on the defensive side of the ball as he flies around and makes consistent plays. Corley Wagner - 2024 OLB - Metro Christian Another prospect that caught my eye at camp was Corley Wagner out of Metro. He has a good frame and looked like a typical outside linebacker coming off the edge and disrupting the passer. Wagner came off the ball quickly and was in the opposing team's backfield majority of camp. Wagner is physical at the point of contact and gets good separation from the lineman. His hand movement is fun to watch as he works them quickly to get off blocks. Wagner has good technique and is a hard-nosed player that will bring it every play. Wagner will be one to keep an eye out for from the 2024 class. Seth Gilbert - 2023 Defensive Back - Cashion The Cashion Wildcats are returning to the 2022 season as defending state champions. Last year, they rattled off 15 straight wins after losing to Rejoice Christian with the season opener. Gilbert plays defensive back for the Wildcats and had 2 good days at Rejoice that we were able to watch. Gilbert was able to help set the edge and gets off blocks quickly. He shows that he has a good backpedal and does well at getting his hands on the wide receiver. Gilbert likes to jam the receivers where he can re-route them off their path. He looks comfortable in small spaces and uses his hands well. Gilbert likes to play physical on the wide receivers, along with good fundamentals, solidifying his good two days of camp. [player_tooltip player_id="157511" first="Todd" last="Drummond"] - 2023 QB - Pawhuska Drummond is a returning starting quarterback for the Huskies this upcoming season. Drummond has a good build playing quarterback where he looks confident back in the pocket. His ability to stretch the ball downfield and his quick release is what have College Coaches looking at this prospect. Drummond has good skill players along with [player_tooltip player_id="360244" first="Noah" last="Wilson"] to distribute the ball to throughout the season. Drummond shows good footwork to go along with his frame back in the pocket which helps avoid the pass rush. Numerous times throughout the camp, Drummond was able to hook up with deep passes that connected with his wide receivers. This allowed him to make big plays throughout both days of camp. Walker McCause - 2023 Athlete - Sperry Another Pirate prospect that we would like to talk about is Walker McCause in the class of 2023. He plays a couple of positions at both running back and wide receiver where he can showcase his talents. Multiple times throughout both days at camp, McCause made several plays with the ball in his hand. The Pirates were able to get him the ball multiple ways as he showed off good vision and balance. McCause would make a catch out of the backfield or take a shallow route and stick his foot in the ground and get vertical quickly. This gives the Pirates another skilled player at this position along with Stanley Rivas for the Pirates to utilize this season.
