Coach Scot Loeffler and his staff were ready to coach the kids up and the kids brought it. Here are 6 players that caught my eye on the day.
2023 WR Joseph Spann (Reynoldsburg) 6’3 210
Reynoldsburg has had and does have some high-profile talent on their team. Spann is one that I think may be flying a little under the radar because of that. He has great size for a receiver. His release is strong, and he runs smooth routes. Once the ball is in the air, he does a great job of tracking and adjusting to make the catch. He plays with great tempo and understands how to use it to create separation. I like Spann as a high D2-D1 FCS prospect.
2025 QB Scotty Fox Scotty Fox 6'2" | 215 lbs | QB Mentor | 2025 State OH (Mentor) 6’2 190
th and development firsthand at the Bowling Green camp. Fox has been on my radar for about a year now and I was excited to see his growHe has added weight and continues to get stronger. He has a ton of arm talent and oozes confidence. He can really spin it, and his throws are on point. Obviously, playing at Mentor there’s a great deal that comes with that. Scotty had a great camp and came away with an offer from Head Coach Scot Loeffler. I expect him to get some P5 interest this offseason, but most of his interest will come from the mid-majors until he can put our more varsity film.
2024 RB Cade Wolford (Jackson) 5’10 190
Two words come to mind when talking about Cade Wolford, and those are speed and explosiveness. His testing numbers were among the best of the camp. He ran a 4.59 40, broad jumped 9’9, and ran a 4.39 in the shuttle. He was used in many ways by the Ironmen. He lined up in the backfield, he lined up at receiver, and played some safety on defense. Really the only thing critique I have is I’d like to see a little more in terms of lateral movement and shake to make guys miss. I’m very interested to see how he continues to fill out and develop as a football player. I expect him to take his game to the next level in the fall of 2022
2023 ATH Tremell Wright Tremell Wright 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Xenia | 2023 State OH (Xenia) 5’11 175
Tremell is an athlete that I really could see line up on either side of the ball at the next level. I probably favor him a little more on the defensive side of the ball, but if needed he could definitely play some wide receiver. On defense Wright has really fluid hips. He does a great job of flipping his hips and getting depth quickly. He tracks the ball well and does a great job of high pointing on both offense and defense. While he’s not the most polished route runner, because of his athleticism he’s able to get open and can make plays with the ball after the catch. I think Tremell’s best fit is at the Division 2 college level.
2023 QB Bryce Schondelmyer Bryce Schondelmyer 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Springfield | 2023 State OH (Springfield) 6’2 190
Schondelmyer is another QB that I’ve had a chance to follow for a little while now. This offseason he worked hard on his throwing motion and really trimmed down his throwing motion and increased his whip and velocity. He showed great touch on his deep ball. He also showed the ability to throw with anticipation. He’s another who spins it well, which for a QB in the Midwest where the weather isn’t always ideal, is important. Bryce, announced this offseason that he will be transferring from Division 6 Arcanum to Division 1 Springfield. At Springfield he’s going to have one of the better receiving crews in the state of Ohio at his disposal. The team around him and the level of competition he’ll play against will go a long way to help prepare him for the next level, and should give college coaches good film to evaluate. I like Bryce’s college fit at the high D2 low D1 FCS level.
2023 S Desmond Owens Miamisburg 6’1 180
Owens is a rangy safety who plays downhill. He plays faster than he tested on the day. He is good in his read and react. He has good footwork and really shows a lot of instinct in his time on playing the ball. Desmond also isn’t afraid to lay the wood when the opportunity presents itself. He takes good pursuit angles to make plays. I like Owens as a fit at the D2 level.
