With so many different age groups, weight limits, division, etc. there’s no exact science to finding middle school athletes, but they’re certainly out there. Let’s take a look at a few 2026’s that have opened my eyes, as their film has come across my desk.
Laron Dues | West Virginia | Defensive Back
Dues is a multi-sport athlete with active feet and quick reaction times. On the field, is decisive in his movement and doesn’t waste movement. Also shows off very loose hips that allow for him to turn and run at a high level. After recently attending Marshall’s camp, Dues received his first offer from the Thundering Herd. The 5-foot-9 and 155-pound Dues will be attending Hurricane High School in the fall, and is one of two incoming freshmen that already holds an offer.
Hudson Kurland | Oregon | Quarterback
Kurland made a huge impact on his eighth-grade team this year as QB1. Throwing on his film, he’s not afraid to move his feet when there’s pressure in the pocket to make a play. Another big takeaway is that he always his eyes downfield, and looks cool, calm, and collected out on the field. Brings a bit of freestyle and unconventional mechanics to the position, by way of throwing on the run or changing his arm angle to fit a ball in a window. He’s listed as a multi-position athlete and it will be interesting to see how his skills translate into high school ball.
Landen Von Seggern | Nebraska | Offensive Line
Already 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Von Seggern is a two-way lineman that should continue to see his stock rise, as he gets set to start his career at Papillion-La Vista. High School. Without question, one of the better young Offensive Linemen in the state, he already reports an offer from Doane University, an NAIA school in the Cornhusker State. Not just a big body, Von Seggern is a three-sport athlete that will also compete in Wrestling as a heavyweight, and in Track and Field, in the field events.
Keyon Robinson | Louisiana | Wide Receiver
Keyon is a 5’11, 180-pound Wide Receiver and is becoming a dynamic WR. As seen by other Prep Redzone Next scouts, Keyon has been a stand-out at recent camps. He has the versatility to complete multiple routes. Not only can he get off the line quickly, but he can create routes that create space from his defender using his long strides. His biggest asset is his vertical, which is currently at 24.5”. I won’t be surprised if he’s a primary target for his QB in the redzone this fall.
Karter Krustinger | Illinois | Quarterback
Karter will be attending Bishop McNamara High School this fall. He’s currently a state champion in baseball and a state runner-up in basketball. As a lengthy 6-foot-1, 150-pound Quarterback, Karter uses his multi-sport abilities to aid his skills at Quarterback. He has a smooth release and can complete a wide array of routes. Karter was spotted at Western Michigan’s and Purdue’s football camps this past month.
Drew Byrd | Idaho | Wide Receiver
Drew is a big Receiver who will continue to fill out in High School. He’s able to help his team in the long pass game, but also has the ability to run comeback routes. He also has been known for catching balls over his defenders and it will be interesting to see how his size compares to high school secondary players. Drew will be attending Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian, Idaho. Rocky Mountain is looking to win its 4th 5A State Championship winning it last in 2020.
Jordan Nunuha | Hawaii | Wide Receiver
Another talented three-sport athlete – Jordan is entering his freshman year at 6’0, 150-pounds. With his size, he’s able to compete for balls over defenders and make plays. With lengthy strides, Jordan is able to cover a lot of ground quickly, which makes him a great down-the-field asset. He competed in 7v7 this past spring, which gave him more reps under his belt. With his ability, you’ll be hearing his name called for his high school quite frequently on Friday nights.
Mark Bowman | Colorado | Quarterback
Mark has been spotted attending multiple college camps in the past month. The 6’2, 185-pound Quarterback will be attending one of the top schools in Colorado this fall, Valor Christian. He has a quick release and a strong arm and he’s able to create a great arc with his passes. Bowman is a multi-position athlete as he’s listed as a Quarterback and Outside Linebacker. In addition, he will be able to incorporate his lacrosse skills onto the football field especially when he’s trying to avoid pressure in the pocket.
Travis London | Arkansas | Running Back
An athletic 5’11, 160 running back has many talents. Travis has the ability to play not only running back, but also a wide receiver, outside linebacker, and cornerback. He has experience seeing the field from multiple angles, which will aid in his success at running back at seeing the gaps. In addition, he has powerful legs for his age and he will only get stronger as he continues to grow in high school. London will be attending Dewitt High School in the fall.
Cross Tonsmeire | Alabama | Linebacker
Tonsemeire is one of the best two-sport athletes I’ve seen in Alabama for the class of 2026. On the baseball diamond he’s a prospect that I can see getting drafted out straight out of High School if he continues on the trajectory he’s on. On the gridiron, as an eighth-grader he was named to an All-Metro selection as both a Running Back and Linebacker. He plays with violent intentions on both sides of the ball. As a Running Back he breaks tackles with ease and almost never gets brought down by one man. If football is his sport long term, I can easily see him ending up on the defensive side of the ball as a Linebacker. A busy backer who moves around like a safety and hits like a Mike Linebacker. We’ll be hearing his name at the next level one way or another.
