In this post, we’re taking a look at the top stock risers from this latest ranking update. These prospects have soared up the rankings in the latest update and there’s a few arguments we could make here. We could talk about the growth that the prospect has made in the last six months since the last update. Or you could make the argument that the prospect should have never been that low to begin with! With all five of these prospects, you can definitely make that argument but they all have really gotten better throughout the offseason and should all feel confident going into their senior year.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="157516" first="Markell" last="Johnson"] - Athlete - Edmond Memorial</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(#20 Overall - Moved Up 46 Spots)</strong></span>
Around this time last year, we thought that Edmond Memorial had one of the better athletes in the state playing quarterback. That was the case with [player_tooltip player_id="157516" first="Markell" last="Johnson"] and halfway thru the season, he moved away from the quarterback position and became an athlete that the Bulldogs could use in a variety of ways. Johnson is a great blend of size, speed and strength and he’s a good example of the "athlete" distinction for his position when you consider that he could very well be a wide receiver or a safety at the next level. He’s a football player that can make an impact in a variety of ways. He has had an outstanding offseason and spring and we’re very impressed with the growth he’s had and it was a no brainer to move him up and into the top 20 for prospects in this class. His recruitment should take off as well.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="98181" first="Bennett" last="Ringleb"] - Offensive Lineman - Union</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(#27 Overall - Moved Up 25 Spots)</strong></span>
The first of two Union prospects that made significant jumps is offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="98181" first="Bennett" last="Ringleb"]. The Union big man will step into the void left by a graduating Will Thomas. Union isn’t exactly lacking size on the offensive line and the Redhawks will definitely use that to their advantage this fall. Ringleb wasn’t able to finish his junior season due to an injury but he looked like he was absolutely back to full strength this spring during team camp. He was just flat out wrecking opposing defensive linemen and while Union’s offense might have a little more balance this fall as opposed to last year but make no mistake that they’ll be running the ball behind Ringleb. Like Thomas, Ringleb is just an absolute mauler at the offensive tackle position and will be a big pick up at the next level.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="287383" first="Devin" last="Robinson"] - Defensive Back - Union</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(#36 Overall - Moved Up 71 Spots)</strong></span>
Without a doubt the prospect that made the biggest jump in the latest ranking update is Union defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="287383" first="Devin" last="Robinson"]. The safety went from being just outside the top 100 in the last update to being #36 overall and one of the top defensive back prospects. We saw a lot of Robinson throughout the offseason while he played with Sooner 7. We got another chance to see him this spring at team camp and he once again impressed in a big way. Robinson is a veteran at the safety position and he has the ability to be an extension of the coaching staff on the field. With Union having to replace quite a few names in their secondary, Robinson will be leaned on to get them up to speed in a hurry. We have no doubts that he’ll be successful in that capacity.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="38817" first="Brandon" last="Harper"] - Wide Receiver - Noble</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(#44 Overall - Moved Up 56 Spots)</strong></span>
Similar to Robinson at Union, Noble wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="38817" first="Brandon" last="Harper"] made a massive leap in this latest ranking update. We watched Harper in person last fall during one game and then got a chance to see him a few times this offseason as well. He’s a fantastic route runner and his ability to terrorize defenses after the catch is what makes him such a tough match-up. He’s similar to a few other wide receivers his size where there might be questions about his size but if you throw on the film, all Harper does is make play after play and it also happens against bigger opponents. We’re on the record that the QB/WR combination of [player_tooltip player_id="219070" first="Colin" last="Fisher"] and [player_tooltip player_id="38817" first="Brandon" last="Harper"] at Noble will be one of the top duos in Class 5A and the Bears are expected to be one of the higher scoring teams.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="157522" first="Chapman" last="McKown"] - Running Back - Norman North</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(#84 Overall - Moved Up 33 Spots)</strong></span>
Another player who jumped up into the Top 100 in the recent update was Norman North running back [player_tooltip player_id="157522" first="Chapman" last="McKown"]. The dynamic Norman North running back was one of the breakout stars from last season in 6A-1. McKown isn’t the biggest back but it did not matter. We covered a few of Norman North’s games last season and it became routine to see McKown show a blend of athleticism but not shy about running it in between the tackles. McKown is also a big threat as a receiver out of the backfield. It will be interesting to see how McKown’s senior season goes compared to last year when he was in the middle of breaking out. Now, 6A-1 is ready for him and it will definitely be fun to see if he puts up the same or even better numbers this fall.
