Continue ReadingI know in North Jersey, the private schools get a lot of love. Ok, lets be real, almost all the love. However there are some public school programs killing it in the weight room, producing on the field and putting multiple players D1 so I wanted to give some shine to Head Coach Barris Grant and the great job he and his staff are doing with the Hillside Comets program.
Muwaffaq Parkman, Jr., RB/S
If this guy is so good, why did he only have 93 carries? Because that’s all the carries he needed. Against Vorhees, he had 8 carries for 225 yards and 4 TDs. Against Livingston he had 10 carries for 160 yards and 3 TDs. The young man had almost 1400 yards at 15 yards a carry on the season and never had more than 15 carries in a single game. That is getting it done.
Muwaffaq has a unique combination of size and top end speed. He’s a long strider, which is rare at running back but he’s so strong in his stride that he breaks tackles and gets to the open field with great momentum. At 6’0, 190 he has the body type D1 coaches love and the frame to put on more weight. He’s a big hitter on defense, closing well on ball carriers and making solo tackles regularly. Muwaffaq already has multiple D1 offers but a few of them are Buffalo, Kent State, LIU, Temple and Old Dominion.

Darren “DJ” Nesmith, Jr., OL
Darren pulls so effortlessly it’s hard to describe. With great agility, he moves across the formation well yet he breaks down and comes under control with great punch in his hands to open up counter and traps. At 6’3, 300 plus pounds he moves very well not only pulling but getting out and reach blocking defensive ends that have him out leveraged for Hillsides excellent run game. I believe Darren’s size and agility projects to playing guard at the next level and I’m excited to see where his football journey takes him next.

Kyon Simonson Kyon Simonson 6'1" | 195 lbs | RB Hillside | 2023 State NJ , Jr., RB
Kyon and Muwaffaq are both great backs but with very different running styles. While their size is comparable, Kyon’s game is focused more on vision and nimble footwork. He is a patient runner who follows his blocks but has a great eye for cutback lanes. He has the quickness of a much smaller player which makes him dangerous in the open field and as a receiver out of the backfield, yet he has great leg drive to finish runs for extra yards. Against Raritan, Kyon had an impressive 207 yards rushing on just 12 carries and 4 touchdowns and had over 1200 yards rushing on the season. Great footwork on a 6 foot running back catches the attention of a lot of schools.

Zaimir Hawk Zaimir Hawk 6'3" | 300 lbs | DL Hillside | 2023 State NJ , Jr. DL
Let’s just be real. Zaimir Hawk Zaimir Hawk 6'3" | 300 lbs | DL Hillside | 2023 State NJ wakes up on game day and chooses violence.
He has the most explosive get off and most violent hands of any defensive lineman I’ve ever evaluated. His film is full of centers’ heads snapping back and getting driven off the line of scrimmage. Several running backs were probably injured in the making of this film as Zaimir…jumped into the backfield, grabbed them and tossed them several yards away. That is not a misprint or an exaggeration. Not ‘tackled’. Tossed, thrown or otherwise manhandled. Zaimir has multiple D1 offers from teams such as Marshall, Maine, Stony Brook, Towson and Western Michigan
For the record he had 55 total tackles, 38 solos with 13 TFLs, but honestly stats don’t do it justice. Just click the link and enjoy.

Charles Allen, Jr., OL
Charles is a legit 6’5, 305 pounds and I believe he is just scratching the surface of his ability. He is dominant in the run game, using a very good drive block to open up holes for two 1,000 yard backs last season and his film shows him positively flattening defensive lineman. He is a very good puller for such a big man causing violent collisions across the formation and he does very bad things to linebackers as he climbs to the second level. Charles has long arms and good feet, providing a lot of time for his QB in the pass game as well. Charles already has D1 offers from Kent State, Rhode Island, Old Dominion, LIU and Stony Brook.
Can’t wait for September 2nd…. Time to put 140 on notice ! pic.twitter.com/hnDLqrOhFv

Caleb Salters Caleb Salters QB Hillside | 2023 NJ , Jr., QB
Junior Quarterback, Caleb Salters Caleb Salters QB Hillside | 2023 NJ is very athletic with running back like quickness and a very strong arm to push the ball downfield. What strikes me about his film is the accuracy and touch on his deep balls. His he has good ball placement, putting the ball away from defenders, allowing for over the shoulder catches and good run after the catch opportunities for his receivers. While he is a great runner, I’m impressed with how he keeps his eyes downfield while scrambling and is accurate on the run. A big plus for scouts for the next level is that high accuracy which is at 84% to go along with the 413 yards rushing with a 11 yards per carry average. Congratulations to Caleb for grabbing a collegiate offer from Pace University.
