Unfortunately, we are sitting in the thick of the football offseason. With no football to watch, the next best thing we can do is watch some film! Obviously, there are much worse things to be occupying your time with this spring, and not to mention, there are a handful of eye-popping prospects on tape that will no doubt make your jaw drop. These are some of my personal favorite highlight reels that have been submitted to me thus far, as their play on tape speaks for themselves. The lucky individuals included below need no proper introduction, so let’s dive right into this community film room session and look at the most exciting prospects to watch throughout the Centennial State!
DL/DE [player_tooltip player_id="150256" first="Chase" last="Brackney"] 6’4" 270 Cherry Creek
(#4 DL, #29 Overall)
Class of 2023
2021 Stats: 82 Tackles, 5.9 TPG, 3.0 TFL
Currently ranked as the fourth best defensive lineman/end in the class of 2023, Brackney’s sheer size strikes fear into opposing offenses. Whether it is shedding blocks to make tackles, batting balls down at the line of scrimmage, or grasping quarterack for sacks in the backfield, the Cherry Creek product has the measurements and skill set to be a next-level player once his high school career concludes.

DB [player_tooltip player_id="247223" first="Sterling" last="DeCosta"] Jr. 6’0" 170 Arapahoe
(#3 DB, #44 Overall)
Class of 2023
2021 Stats: 77 Tackles, 7.7 TPG, 8 PD’s
One of the top defensive backs in the entire Centennial State, [player_tooltip player_id="247223" first="Sterling" last="DeCosta"] Jr. is a long and lanky prospect with a knack of getting his paws on the ball. While he managed to not reel an interception last season, his eight pass deflections alone from 2021 tells the whole story of a defensive back that won’t shy away from any receiving threat he lines up across from. Decosta Jr. also maintains fluidity in his hips and has a first step quicker than most edge rushers. On tape, the soon-to-be senior really stands out and displays the proper fundamentals that every cornerback should possess.

DB [player_tooltip player_id="62247" first="Trey" last="Stott"] 5’11" 185 Valor Christian
(#10 DB, #98 Overall)
Class of 2023
2021 Stats: 63 Tackles, 4.5 TPG, 4.0 TFL, 2 INT’s, 2 PD’s,
Another defensive back reigning from the Denver metro area, [player_tooltip player_id="62247" first="Trey" last="Stott"] out of Valor Christian is a name that every Colorado high school football fan should have in the back of their minds as a playmaker who could breakout in 2022. One of those secondary members that has no fear in making tackles on opposing running backs, wide receivers, and even massive tight ends, Stott does a tremendous job in chopping his feet and leaning with his shoulder when bringing down ball carriers. Currently rated as the #10 defensive back in the state, Stott has a chance to up his value as the 2022 season progresses. Stott also has the capability to play wide receiver as a two-way player in the video below.

RB [player_tooltip player_id="150204" first="Cruz" last="Zamudio"] 5’11" 170 Frederick
(#11 RB, #99 Overall)
Class of 2023
2021 Stats: 50 CAR, 343 Yards, 6.9 AVG, 57.2 AVG, 1 TD
One of the more slept on running back prospects in my opinion, the Frederick Warriors product has an extremely strong lower half that helps him drive wimpy tacklers for extra yardage. Zamudio also keeps the rock close to his body, preventing him from fumbling and giving teams an extra possession on offense. The senior running back is primed for a ginormous season as the bell cow of the Frederick backfield.

OL [player_tooltip player_id="143638" first="Wyatt" last="Bristow"] 6’2" 260 Legend
(Watch List Nominee)
Class of 2024
2021 Stats: N/A
Yes, the offensive line has made an appearance among the community film room! [player_tooltip player_id="143638" first="Wyatt" last="Bristow"] out of Legend High School in Parker has the ideal size to be an effective starter as a junior at this level. Fitted with the perfect frame at the guard position, Bristow even has the intangibles to play the outside positions at tackle, which demonstrates just how valuable he can be on the offensive line. On tape, Bristow has great mobility when navigating through his blocking assignments, and excels at keeping his hands inside of the pads when making contact with a defender.

QB [player_tooltip player_id="232155" first="Alex" last="Birch"] 5’10" 165 Horizon
(Watch List Nominee)
Class of 2025
2021 Stats: 178/289, 2,130 Yards, 61%, 213.0 YPG, 16 TD’s, 5 INT’s
The one and only quarterback to be included on this list, Birch averaged more than 200 yards in his first season of high school ball, as he was no doubt one of the top signal callers to strap on the pads in the class of 2025 last year. At 5’10", the possibility of Birch even growing a couple inches will do him wonders, as he is already athletic and nimble enough to be considered a true dual-threat danger to opposing defenses. Combine that with good footwork and quick decision making, and all of a sudden you’ve got yourself a pretty darn good quarterback directing your offense. The sky is the limit for this young man, as Horizon’s future is looking as bright as ever with Birch under center for the next few years.

WR [player_tooltip player_id="232160" first="Max" last="Mervin"] 6’0" 170 Ponderosa
(Watch List Nominee)
Class of 2025
2021 Stats: 48 REC, 521 Yards, 10.9 AVG, 5 TD’s
During his freshman campaign at Ponderosa, Mervin showcased immense skill in finding the soft spot in the defense with crisp route running and a quick first step off the line of scrimmage. When watching tape on the soon to be sophomore, his 6’0" frame and gentle hands gives his quarterback a large window to fit the ball in. Mervin can pinpoint the ball while it’s in the air with the best of them, and he should only get more productive on the field with more experience and wisdom under his belt. There’s no question the promising Mervin will be a top target within the Mustang’s offense this fall.
