As teams in York County get started in a few weeks, we wanted to take a look at one player on each side of the ball that you will want to keep your eye on in Part Two of our two-part series.
Check out part one if you missed it on Wednesday, which focused on teams in the Rock Hill area. Today, we’re heading across the Catawba River to talk about teams in Fort Mill.
Fort Mill
Offense – WR Jason Moran: Moran spent the 2021 season at the slot position and he runs solid and fluid routes where he can show off his hands and speed once he’s out into the open field. In watching his film, there was a quick 10-yard completion that turned into a long gain because he split the linebacker and the safety, which shows great awareness. Expect this to continue heading into his senior season.
Defense – LB Stephen Ocampo: The thing that stood out about watching Ocampo’s film from 2021 was his ability to free roam and attack the line of scrimmage for a TFL or drop into coverage and knock the ball away. He knows how to find the ball and doesn’t miss tackles.
Nation Ford
Offense – RB Jeremiah Hailstock: Hailstock’s running style is physical and downhill. The first five yards are almost too easy because once he hits the hole, he explodes and it can be a touchdown. He’s also a threat to score on kickoff returns as he took one back to the house in 2021. If he can begin to catch the ball out of the backfield, he’ll be an even bigger threat in 2022.
Defense – LB Morgan Ramirez: Ramriez is an impressive edge setter and does not allow the runner to get around the corner. It was common to see him lined up like a defensive end, which is something you would see in a 3-4 defensive scheme.
Catawba Ridge
Offense – QB Nate Thomas: Following Jadyn Davis’s departure from Catawba Ridge to Providence Day in Charlotte, it’s clearly Thomas’s show as he heads into his senior year. He got meaningful experience in 2021 with being able to make the short and intermediate throws well. The ball comes out of his hands smoothly with his ability to step into the throws.
Defense – DB Keyon Kiles: Kiles only played in four games in 2021, but he made his impact felt. He didn’t allow any completions when the ball came his way and he can stay stride for stride with receivers and knock the ball away. We also saw on his film that he can make tackles in the open field. We’ll be interested to see what he does with a full season.
