Continue ReadingA few weeks ago I visited one of the fastest-rising programs in the state, and that is Union High School. Union is a Division 1 program, part of Grand Rapids Public Schools. As we’ve seen throughout the state and across the country, many city schools produce some incredible talent, and I believe I’m catching a ton of great athletes early in their High School careers.
C/DT Syncere Hobson Syncere Hobson 6'2" | 265 lbs | DL East Kentwood | 2025 State MI
Standing at 6’2″ 275lbs, Syncere Hobson Syncere Hobson 6'2" | 265 lbs | DL East Kentwood | 2025 State MI is one of the marquee prospects at Union High School and has a chance to become one of the most significant 2025 prospects in Michigan. In the weight room, you can tell that Hobson is a big deal, as he’s constantly singled out and encouraged by his coaches to push himself to the limit. Head Coach Don Fellows calls Hobson “One of the best linemen I’ve coached in 27 years”. Syncere Hobson Syncere Hobson 6'2" | 265 lbs | DL East Kentwood | 2025 State MI has real power-5 potential, and it should be exciting to see what his sophomore season holds. Oh, and he has fantastic grades.
OT/DE Decarion Raney Decarion Raney 6'3" | 215 lbs | OL Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI
Very athletic on both sides of the ball, Decarion Raney Decarion Raney 6'3" | 215 lbs | OL Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI has boundless potential and will likely be a 4-year starter. As we all know, the offseason is the time to build in silence. As Raney gains strength and weight, he’ll be a superstar in the OK-Green.
WR/DB Christopher Murphy Christopher Murphy 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI
The “fastest kid on varsity” is a dynamic playmaker on both sides of the ball. He’s a good size at 6’ 175lbs, and Murphy will likely be another 4-year starter.
SB/SS Kamthi Long Kamthi Long 5'9" | 165 lbs | DB Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI
A great, smart athlete, Kamthi Long Kamthi Long 5'9" | 165 lbs | DB Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI looks to make strides in his game after a year of varsity experience. A multi-sport athlete, Long is built well, and I hear he brings it during practice and plays the game with a good sense of physicality and IQ. He’ll be going up against the great competition of the OK-Green, and with a great season, colleges will come calling.
RB/LB Keith Griffin Keith Griffin 5'10" | 205 lbs | LB Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI
Another hard worker with good grades, Keith Griffin Keith Griffin 5'10" | 205 lbs | LB Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI , is working on his craft during the offseason. Standing at 5’9″ 185lbs, he’s a strong body that will do what is asked of him. This is yet another prospect who started on varsity during his freshman year, and there is plenty of time from now until graduation to build and refine his craft.
OG/DT Miguel Rodriguez Miguel Rodriguez 5'10" | 260 lbs | OL Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI
This is a physical, agile prospect who has talent and great potential. He’s a big body standing at 5’10″ 260lbs, having started on varsity during his freshman season. Like all of these guys, Miguel Rodriguez Miguel Rodriguez 5'10" | 260 lbs | OL Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI has an amazing opportunity to play at the varsity level for what will likely be 4 years.
OG/DT Lloyd Nelson Lloyd Nelson 5'10" | 235 lbs | OL Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI
A great kid with a solid GPA, Lloyd Nelson Lloyd Nelson 5'10" | 235 lbs | OL Grand Rapids Union | 2025 MI is a hard worker that is refining his craft. He played some varsity this past season, and with improvements on strength with hopefully a bit more height, Nelson has great potential on this OK-Green squad.
