In this series, we’re going to be diving into player breakdowns varying across positions and with players that you should have on your radar heading into the fall season. These student athletes range across all of Illinois and across all levels (8A-1A). Without further ado, let’s dive into part six of our 24′ breakdowns.
Evan Agosto Evan Agosto 5'11" | 180 lbs | WR Maine South | 2024 State IL Twitter
Mr. Agosto took his snaps on Varsity this last fall season as a receiver working both on the outside as well as out of the slot. Here, he showcases glimpses of having the foot quicks to close the cushion on defenders playing in “off” coverage and provides a glimpse into his route running as well. This is seen in a clip in his highlights where he runs an out route from the slot and uses a speed cut at the top of the route. Once he does, he gets flat down the line before securing the catch along the sideling by using a toe tap. In another clip, he’s getting pressed and he’s able to get to the defender’s toes before breaking on the slant route. Upon doing so, he gains inside leverage to win the route in the redzone and is then able to secure the catch before being brought down at the one-yard line. His ability to get open showcases his understanding of spacing as he can find the soft spot in zone coverage where he’ll sit to become an outlet for his quarterback. This is seen in the second clip in his highlights where he secures the catch between two defenders before he stops as he anticipates a hit but there’s none comes. He then uses his foot quicks to get vertical along the sideline as he outruns pursuit angles on his way into the endzone for a touchdown. In another clip, he secures the curl route and is able to stay up providing a glimpse into his body control after the initial defender tries to tackle him. This young man is able to break the first weak grab tackle before breaking a second weak grab tackle to break a long run along the sideline before he’s pushed out of bounds. His home run speed and run after the catch are one to keep an eye on moving forward as he provides insight into his long speed. There’s a clip in his highlights where he secures the bubble screen and gets vertical quickly along the sideline breaking not one, not two, but three weak grab tackles. Here, he uses his foot quicks to break a long run before being pushed out of bounds inside the twelve-yard line. In another clip, he runs the bubble screen again and this time is able to gain a step on the second-level defenders where he wins the foot race into the endzone for the touchdown. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Jack Crudele Jack Crudele 5'9" | 195 lbs | OL Huntley | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Crudele took his snaps on Varsity this last fall season as an offensive lineman providing insight into being able to get hands inside and keep his feet driving through the whistle when he’s blocking in line. At times, he can finish plays by throwing defenders into the dirt providing glimpses into his attacking/aggressive playstyle. In the first clip in his highlights, he doubles the defensive tackle with the offensive guard where they’re able to keep their feet driving finishing the play by putting the defender on his back. In pass protection, this young man provides glimpses of what could come if he continues to develop his skill set. In one clip in his highlights, he gets out of his stance and anchors as he absorbs the bull rush to tie up the rushing defender at the point of attack keeping the pocket clean for his quarterback. In another clip, he’s able to pick up the delayed blitzer by keeping his head on a swivel as he initially doesn’t have a man to block. Here, he delivers a strong punch on the blitzing defender throwing the defender into the ground. This young man showcases glimpses of the type of player that he can be/turn into and I look forward to seeing how he develops over the course of his high school career. Currently holds no offers. Dalton Brown Dalton Brown 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Edwardsville | 2024 State IL Twitter
Mr. Brown took his snaps on Varsity this last fall season where he took snaps both as an OLB and ILB. Both of which he provides insight into being able to shoot gaps and get through generating penetration on the play to either blow up the play in the backfield for a tackle for loss both on inside and outside runs. There’s a clip in his highlights where he’s coming on a blitz and is able to meet the ball carrier in the hole for no gain on the play. In the first clip in his highlights, he uses his quick first step at the snap to trigger downhill quickly as he avoids the receiver crack block enabling him to blow up the toss play in the backfield securing the tackle for loss right as the ball carrier secures the pitch. When he’s working as an inside linebacker, he provides insight into being able to trigger downhill quickly in close space to meet the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage for no gain as he can stick the ball carrier in the hole. When it’s an outside the tackle run, this young man provides insight into being able to take the block head-on by jolting the defender upright before disengaging to secure the tackle on the ball carrier for no gain on the perimeter. Building off this, once the quarterback escapes the pocket this young man can close quickly not allowing the quarterback to turn the corner and can secure the tackle in open space. Both of which provide glimpses of his range and ability to cover sideline to sideline. When he’s in zone coverage, he drops back into the hook/curl. In one clip, he does just that and see’s the receiver breaking on an out route. This young man then undercuts the route in the flat and is able to come away with an interception. In another clip in his highlights, it’s in the redzone where at the snap he steps up to the line of scrimmage to play the run first but once he diagnoses it’s a pass he’s able to drop back into the hook/curl getting his hand up to deflect the pass in the endzone coming away with the pass break up. This young man can also get pressure on the quarterback as well. In one clip in his highlight, he comes off a blitz and is able to get through untouched delivering a free shot on the quarterback as he secures the sack. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Dion Andrews Twitter
Mr. Andrews took his snaps on Varsity this last fall season working out of a 3-4 defense as an outside linebacker/edge providing insight into his quick first step to get on top of the offensive tackle before they’re set to block. When he’s coming on a pass rush, he’s walked up on the line of scrimmage more times than not. In one clip in his highlights, he’s quick off the ball and is able to jolt the offensive tackle upright as he uses his bull rush before disengaging to close on the quarterback for the sack. If the offensive tackle is able to slide out before this young man gets to the turn point he showcases a glimpse of being able to counter back inside. He does so by using a club/swim move to bat the offensive tackle’s hands down to get through the B gap and once he does he closes on the quarterback for the sack. This young man uses his quick first step to be a threat off the edge and continues to play through the whistle when coming off the edge. So much so, that he got picked up by the halfback and is able to continue working to secure the sack on the quarterback after he disengages from the halfback. All in all, this young man can mix in a bull rush and swim/club move. Both of which result in him being able to close on the quarterback quickly securing the sack as well as being able to come away with the quarterback pressure. When the run is coming at him, he provides glimpses of being quick off the ball and able to use a club/swim move before the offensive lineman is set to block. This results in him getting into the backfield to blow up the play for a tackle for loss. He also provides glimpses of being able to meet the ball carrier at/near the line of scrimmage for no/little gain on the play. When the run is going away from him, he provides a glimpse of being able to go flat down the line of scrimmage to secure the tackle for minimal gain. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Dominic Gradford Dominic Gradford 5'9" | 150 lbs | ATH Thornton Fractional North | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Gradford took his snaps on Varsity both as a receiver and a cornerback. This young man provides glimpses of being able to deliver the initial punch on the defender to sustain the block long enough for the ball carrier to get by. In one clip in his highlights, he’s in the slot and is able to block the defensive back triggering downhill just enough for the ball carrier to get into the endzone for a touchdown. This young man also provides glimpses of understanding spacing as he works out of the slot. Here, he can find the soft spot in zone coverage where he’ll sit to become an outlet for his quarterback. In one clip in his highlights, he’s split out wide in the redzone and uses his foot quicks to close the cushion between the cornerback before he goes up for the 50/50 ball. Upon doing so, he plays above the rim attacking the ball at the highest point to secure the contested catch for the touchdown. On defense, he provides a glimpse of being able to close on the defender in open space to secure the tackle. In one clip in his highlights, he’s able to save a touchdown in the redzone by doing so. He also has a clip in his highlights where he diagnoses the fake field goal and is able to plant his foot to trigger to the sideline not allowing the ball carrier to turn the corner to get into the endzone. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
Jovan Williams Jovan Williams 5'10" | 150 lbs | ATH Hillcrest | 2024 IL Twitter
Mr. Williams took his snaps on JV this last fall season as a receiver and cornerback. On offense, he provides glimpses of being able to secure the catch along the sideline using a toe tap. In the first clip in his highlights, he’s able to stack the defender and gain the step advantage as he runs a post route. He’s then able to look the ball in to secure the catch before getting vertical gaining extra yards on the play before being brought down. What I’m most interested in is how his long speed and foot quicks will transition to the Varsity level. In the second clip in his highlights, he’s able to secure the bubble screen out of the slot and gets vertical along the sideline. Here, he uses his foot quicks to outrun the second-level defenders breaking a long run as he gets into the endzone for the touchdown. This young man provides glimpses of his foot quicks as he has long strides and shows what he can do with his long catch radius. There’s one clip in his highlights where it’s a QB scramble drill and upon seeing this he’s able to find the soft spot in the endzone. His quarterback sees this and lofts the ball to him in the back of the endzone where this young man is able to secure the catch for the touchdown. That being said, he does have room to add to his frame and hone his craft. On defense, he showcases glimpses of being able to react quickly once the ball is thrown. Upon doing so, he can adjust quickly to get his hand into the passing lane as he undercuts the route coming away with a pass breakup on plays. Again, this analysis is taken off his JV highlights and we have yet to see how his skill set will transition to the Varsity level. What I’m interested to see is how his route running as well as foot quicks fairs against the Varsity competition. Time will tell once he takes those snaps this upcoming fall season. Currently holds no offers. Highlights
