This offseason, some Iowa prospects sent their film in to be evaluated. We look at some well-known prospects that have made a name for themselves along with some up-and-coming prospects.
[player_tooltip player_id="300641" first="Rowan" last="Carlson"] (2023) | 5’10" 185lbs | RB/LB | Tripoli
There is a reason that Rowan was 3rd team all-state and 1st team all-district. Rowan rushed for over 8 yards a carry due to his speed and toughness. Arm tackles will not take Rowan down, and it’s over once he gets to the sideline and can open up his burners. This will not be as effective at the higher levels, but it is an encouraging sign that Rowan hits the holes well before bouncing to the outside. He had a solid season, and I am looking forward to how he does next year, not just running the ball, but also receiving and playing linebacker for Tripoli.

[player_tooltip player_id="300041" first="Bryer" last="Prochniak"] (2023) | 5’11" 185lbs | RB/Slot | North Union High School

Bryer has great speed, but surprisingly that was not what impressed me the most on his film. Bryer’s jump cuts and open-field moves are a thing of beauty. If Bryer sees an ounce of daylight he is in the end zone. While he is a finesse player, he is not afraid of contact. I noticed from Bryer that the football can get loose from his body when he is in the open field, which could cause some turnovers. Bryer did enough to get in the way of defenders with cut blocks as a pass blocker, but it would be nice to see him work on squaring up defenders as well.

Bryer also does a nice job in the receiving game as well. While I see Bryer having more success as a running back, I think he still does a good job in the slot. He has great YAC potential and can go get jump balls. He also has solid hands and had a nice one-handed catch on film. I would like to see him continue to work on stems and use his finesse and speed in his routes.

[player_tooltip player_id="269240" first="William" last="Stobbe"] (2024) | 6’4" 245lbs | OT/DE | Waukee

William punishes smaller defenders. He had free releases to the second level, and he was able to pancake many linebackers on film. William also has good athleticism for his size, and he was used well as a pulling tackle in run schemes. He does not try to get in the way of defenders but pancake them. It was also great to see William blocking multiple defenders on one play. He never quits on a play and is always trying to run down the running back or tackling an interceptor. Defenders that opened their chest up to William were stuck in their pass rush. He did a good job of attacking the chest and not lunging. He also got a couple of snaps on defense, where he did fine, but I would like to see him better use his size and strength to make plays.

[player_tooltip player_id="105146" first="Nate" last="Anderson"] (2023) | 5’8" 240lbs | DT/OG | Nevada
Nate has great speed off the ball as a defensive lineman, which has led to many TFLs for him. He punishes the other team on his tackles, and he has great pursuit throughout the field. Nate has made great plays with a club move or swim move, and his ability to get skinny and squeeze between offensive linemen is fun to watch. I would like to see Nate continue to work on his ability to tackle the quarterback and other offensive players once he gets into the backfield with his array of moves. He does a nice job of playing off of blocks, staying low, and maintaining gap integrity in the run fit.

[player_tooltip player_id="152687" first="Kaden" last="Caspers"] (2023) | 5’9" 170lbs | RB/DB | Lisbon
Kaden had 36 rushes for 240 yards and 13 receptions for 213 yards. He also had 32.5 tackles, including 7 TFLs. While his stats do not jump off the screen, Kaden made great winning plays for his team. Kaden plays with good speed, as evidenced by a couple of his long touchdowns. Kaden sped right past a defender on a crucial 4th down to score a long touchdown. Kaden also plays with good physicality, as evidenced by the way he finishes tackles, blocks on offense, and finishes runs. Kaden set up lots of plays for his teammates by blocking multiple defenders on one possession. He also played physical at the line of scrimmage on defense and has a nice jam as a cornerback. Most of the routes I saw from Kaden were streak routes, but he did have a nice pivot route that stood out. I would like to see Kaden continue to work on his routes, including stems, head fakes, and double moves.

[player_tooltip player_id="312633" first="Joel" last="Bayens"] (2023) | 6’2.5" 240lbs | OL/DL | Des Moines Christian
Joel was a great run blocker for Des Moines Christian. Once he attached to a defender, he did not let go until the whistle was blown. He was a pile pusher and created great lanes for the skill players. Joel’s versatility was evident in the film; he had the knowledge and ability to play any spot on the offensive line and do it well. Joel also had some good plays on defense by using his strength to muscle past offensive linemen and make goal-line stands. I did not see many pass-blocking reps out of Joel, so it is hard to assess his skill in that area.

Jaydin Anderson (2023) | 5’10" 150lbs | WR/DB | Manson
Jaydin can do it all on the football field. Whether it’s his 416 receiving yards, 310 return yards, or forced turnovers on defense, Jaydin makes plays. From the first two plays of his film, you can see that he is a playmaker. He does not have the greatest size, but that does not stop him from making contested catches over defenders. He has great speed, and I am sure that opposing coaches’ game planned to not kick the ball to him. He constantly found ways to get past the defenders, no matter how deep they were. His awareness also helped him make great plays as he toe-tapped the end zone and sideline to perfection. I would like to see Jaydin continue to put on weight and increase his physicality, which would complement his good route running and speed.
