Below, we will take a look at some of the best Dual-Threat quarterbacks around the Greater Bay Area, breakdown their film and preview what they have to offer going into the 2022 season.
’23 Yaj Vance, Edison-Fresno HS
Vance is a very accurate signal caller with a quick release and throws a tight spiral in the short and intermediate game. Patient in the pocket, he has a quick reaction time to pocket pressure and shows good escapability skills with a nice burst and the ability to make the first tackler miss in the open field. Although a natural runner who can make big plays with his feet, he can fit balls into tight windows and is not afraid to take a deep shot when needed with some good touch and velocity on the ball while leading his receivers open allowing yards after the catch.
’24 JACOB PRUITT JACOB PRUITT 5'10" | 165 lbs | QB Rancho Cotate | 2024 State CA , Rancho Cotate HS
Pruitt has mostly seen time as a quarterback as a situational player for the Cougars but can play on both sides of the ball and is one of the fastest straight lined players the Bay Area has to offer. A very fluid athlete with the ball in his hands, he has elite quickness in tight windows and offers return ability while showing good vision in the open field and the ability to breakaway through the third level. Still finding his footing at the quarterback position as he is only a Sophomore, his position versatility and pure athleticism and speed make him a dynamic player on a loaded offensive roster for the cougars.
’23 Nate Escalada, Bellarmine HS
This past season Escalada also made a big impact at safety but has done some really good things playing quarterback through out his high school career and could play either position in college depending on the level he plays at. A well rounded athlete with good open field speed and feel for the game, he can deliver the ball downfield quickly while excelling on downfield throws and putting nice air under it and in places only his receivers can make a play. In the run game, he has sneaky speed around the corner on designed runs and is a long strider with good contact balance and cutback ability in the open field. His ability to feel the pocket and know when to step up and make big time throws or take off up the middle make him very dangerous in the backfield while also instinctually flying around on the back end as well.
’23 Omari Baker, Edison-Stockton HS
Baker is one of the top players the valley has to offer and is poised for a huge Senior season for the Vikings. He has a pretty strong arm downfield and does a good job at moving defenders with his eyes and can throw on a rope while standing in the pocket on intermediate throws. Although a very good runner with a quick burst and foot speed, he stays patient in the pocket and moves through his progressions before bailing on the run. Due to his speed, natural athleticism, ball skills and length, he can play multiple positions in college and be a very effective on both sides of the ball.
