The Class of 2023 is the most talented collection of QBs that I have had the pleasure of scouting here in WI. Not only is there D1 talent at the top, but depth as well. I strongly believe that all 8 of the signal callers in this article will be playing at a D2 level, minimum. The best part is that the talent has translated to the field for all of them. Both in the form of impressive statistics, team success, or both. Today, I want to look at the statistics for each of these QBs. Some put up numbers with their arm, some with their legs, and some with a combination of both. Each of them are must know prospects. Let’s dive into the most productive returning signal callers! [player_tooltip player_id="304408" first="AJ" last="Korth"], 2023 QB/ATH- Menasha

1,768 Rushing Yds (17th Overall)

25 Rushing TDs (15th Overall)

1,223 Passing Yds

17 Passing TDs

AJ will enter the 2022 season firmly in the running for the top dual threat QB in the state. He is blessed with the play speed, quick twitch, short area agility, and vision to be a game breaking ball carrier. As a passer, AJ is a raw prospect. However, he is blessed with a naturally strong arm with a quick release that matches the rest of his impressive quickness. If he can continue to develop his overall accuracy and control over the ball he will take the next step in his game. His athleticism also allows him to be an impactful defensive back on the other side of the ball. AJ is an exciting prospect who can play multiple positions a tt he next level. Colleges should be intrigued by the vast potential of the playmaker. [player_tooltip player_id="31399" first="Jackson" last="Flottmeyer"], 2023 QB- Aquinas

2,879 Passing Yards (2nd Overall)

24 Passing TDs (3rd Overall)

145.0 Passer Rating (4th Overall)

Jackson has himself right in the middle of the race for the top pocket passer in the state. He has an elite frame at 6’6" 215 lbs. His most prominent trait is his accuracy and touch that he plays with. His ability to see how DBs are playing their leverage and put the ball where only his guy can get it is D1 level. Jackson can place the ball as well, if not better, than any QB in the state. That exceptional level of accuracy allowed him to lead his team to an undefeated State Championship in 2021. If he can take push his arm strength to another level then you can fully expect to see him take another jump up the rankings like he did this past update. [player_tooltip player_id="299868" first="Jerry" last="Kaminski"], 2023 QB- Sun Prairie

2,559 Passing Yards (5th Overall)

30 Passing TDs (8th Overall)

382 Rushing Yards

7 Rushing TDs

I’m a big fan of the well balanced game of the 6’2" 190 lbs signal caller. Jerry translated those numbers into a State Championship appearance. First and foremost, Jerry is a passer. He is a technically sound QB who is able to generate all the necessary velocity thanks to his sharp technique. Kaminski can attack each level of the field with the ball on a frozen rope. When the pocket collapses, or a lane opens up, Jerry has the speed to break a defense’s back on the ground. I was really impressed with the offseason development of his arm from his sophomore to junior year. If he can make another jump leading into his final season then the sky is the limit for Jerry. [player_tooltip player_id="31389" first="Chase" last="Spellman"], 2023 QB- Kettle Moraine

1,945 Passing Yards (20th Overall)

27 Passing TDs (11th Overall)

The #1 QB in the state translated those numbers into a deep playoff run. The crazy part of Chase’s season is that he did it all with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. That toughness is just one of his special, next level traits. He has a 6’4" 220 lbs frame, and his technique is textbook. His feet stay connected to his eyes as he works through progressions. My favorite part of his game is his ability to deliver the ball from different arm angles. If his arm is free he can figure out a way to get the pass off it seems like. Between his gamer mentality, and high talent level, Spellman has made himself the top QB in a special class. I’m excited to see how he performs now that he has fixed the shoulder this offseason. [player_tooltip player_id="104371" first="Nate" last="Kollath"], 2023 QB- Sussex Hamilton

2,392 Passing Yards (8th Overall)

32 Passing TDs (6th Overall)

784 Rushing Yards

15 Rushing TDs

My #1 dual threat QB is the Sussex signal caller. I am a huge fan of the way he takes what the defense gives him and makes him pay. It as so fun to watch. Some weeks he would have to throw the ball all over the field, and then other weeks he would have to carry the ball 20+ times on the ground. Whatever it took Nate is willing to do it. As a passer, Kollath has arguably the strongest arm in the state. He can attack every piece of grass on the field thanks to that arm, and he is able to control it at the same time. If he can further that control and accuracy this season, Nate will become a very intriguing QB prospect. One that should have the attention of the D1 level. [player_tooltip player_id="157794" first="Mason" last="Keyes"], 2023 QB- DeForest

1,814 Passing Yards (27th Overall)

33 Passing TDs (5th Overall)

The 6’1" 185 lbs signal caller was an ultra- efficient passer this past fall. Despite finishing 27th in passing yards, he was able to finish 5th in TD passes. To make it even more impressive, Mason only threw 1 INT all season long. That efficiency and ball security are not things that you find easily. I’ll be very interested in seeing if he can come close to replicating that again. Mason was aggressive with the ball too. He stretched the field with adequate arm strength and the accuracy to make it very hard for DBs to make plays on the ball. Keyes also is an intriguing athlete. His 4.65 40 time allowed him to buy a lot of time in the pocket. I really liked seeing him choose to do that instead of taking off every time he was pressured. He doesn’t have the prototypical size, but that hasn’t effected his game. [player_tooltip player_id="304411" first="Evan" last="Voss"], 2023 QB- Black River Falls

1,996 Passing Yards (15th Overall)

221.8 Passing Yards Per Game (8th Overall)

22 Passing TDs

On a game to game basis, Evan is one of the most productive passers returning to the field in 2022. He has a very good frame checking in at 6’3" 190 lbs. Evan uses that frame to generate eye opening velocity on his passes. There isn’t a window that this kid won’t try to hit. He clearly believes in his arm, and is not hesitant to be aggressive. He also is an effective athlete on the ground. Evan put up nearrly 40 yards rushing and 5 TDs on the ground. Voss is still raw technique- wise, and I want to see him use and understand when to use touch over that raw strength to deliver his passes. If he can do that expect to see him rise up the rankings and earn in even more interest from the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="217203" first="Luke" last="Novotny"], 2023 QB- Milwaukee Marquette

2,129 Passing Yards (12th Overall)

24 Passing TDs (17th Overall)

The 6’5" 190 lbs lefty looks poised for a big year after watching through the junior highlights. Luke has a solid base when looking at his overall technique. His eyes are connected to his feet, and his feet, hips, and upper body work well together to get the ball out of his hands quickly and with adequate velocity. The big man has repeatedly shown to have impressive touch when he needs to drop the ball between levels of defenders or put it in a particular spot so only his man can get it. The cherry on top is that he is a surprising athlete for his size. If he can continue to improve his arm strength then the sky is the limit.
