De Smet tight end [player_tooltip player_id="37655" first="Mac" last="Markway"] thought he had found his college destination when he made a verbal commitment to the University of Florida last summer on July 27. But then the hulking 6-foot-4, 250-pounder watched the business side of college football unfold as the Gators went 6-7 overall, finished sixth in the Southeastern Conference East at 2-6 in 2021 and fired coach Dan Mullen before the end of the season. Markway, who missed his junior season of high school football with an injury, announced his decommitment from Florida in late December and re-opened a recruiting process that had seen him receive scholarship offers from the top programs in college football. On Thursday, Markway, the top tight end and No. 3 overall prospect in Missouri in the Class of 2023, announced his commitment on social media after months of reevaluating his options. Markway made a verbal commitment to LSU, a school he had considered before his pledge to Florida, and new coach Brian Kelly, the former Notre Dame coach who had also recruited the big tight end while in charge of the Fighting Irish. At LSU, Markway will reunite with former De Smet coach Robert Steeples, now an assistant coach with the Tigers after spending a season as an assistant with the Minnesota Vikings, and former De Smet teammate Mekhi Wingo, who transferred there after a strong freshman season at the University of Missouri. Wingo was Prep Redzone’s No. 1 overall prospect in Missouri in the Class of 2022. LSN STANDOUT GREEN NAMES TOP FIVE Lee’s Summit North offensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id="37658" first="Cayden" last="Green"], the No. 1 overall prospect in Missouri in the Class of 2023, announced his top five schools this week. On Wednesday, the 6-5, 310-pounder announced a final five of Nebraska, Miami, Missouri, Michigan and Oklahoma. According to his Twitter account, Green has spent time visiting each of his five finalists in recent weeks, with his most recent trip to the University of Missouri just the day before his announcement. Former Lee’s Summit North offensive line teammate [player_tooltip player_id="99439" first="Armand" last="Membou"] is already on campus at Missouri as an early enrollee. REEDS SPRING’S WIEST ADDS OFFERS Reeds Spring 2023 standout [player_tooltip player_id="101690" first="Caden" last="Wiest"] continues to adds Division I offers and recently added some from the Ivy League, showing that he also excels in the classroom in addition to on the field and in the weight room. Wiest, a 6-4, 250-pound defensive end/tight end, recently added offers from Army, Columbia and Princeton in addition to earlier offers from Central Michigan, Illinois State, Eastern Michigan and Missouri State. Wiest has received a lot of interest and has visited schools like Missouri, Iowa and Miami Ohio among others. He’s a talented athlete who could end up playing any one of several different positions on either side of the ball in college. WASHINGTON’S BUHR PICKS UP OFFERS Washington 2023 two-way standout [player_tooltip player_id="101697" first="Trevor" last="Buhr"] has seen his recruiting pick up in recent weeks. A 6-4, 265-pounder who plays defensive end and left tackle, Buhr added an offer from Iowa this month after offers from Western Michigan, Southeast Missouri State, Central Michigan, Iowa State earlier in 2022. He received an offers from Kansas during his junior season. Buhr’s teammate, [player_tooltip player_id="262940" first="Mark" last="Hensley"], a 6-4, 255-pound two-way lineman, received his first offer from Southeast Missouri State last month. He will be another player to watch this offseason and during his senior season this fall. MITCHELL ADDS OFFERS Dynamic 2023 running back-wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="37659" first="Allen" last="Mitchell"] has a new school after transferring from De Smet to Lutheran-St. Charles at the semester break and continues to add to his offer list. Mitchell recently received offers from Central Michigan, Army and Navy after releasing a Top 10 schools list earlier this month of Kansas State, Kansas, Buffalo, Minnesota, Western Michigan, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan State, Kentucky and Ball State. One of Mitchell’s new teammates to watch is 2023 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="172016" first="Michael" last="Parr Jr"]., who is coming off a 1,000-yard season during Lutheran’s championship run and picked up his first offer from Western Illinois in late February. 2024 STANDOUT GETS FIRST SEC OFFER Hannibal 2024 athlete [player_tooltip player_id="130203" first="Aneyas" last="Williams"] has put up monster numbers in his first two high school seasons and has attracted a lot of attention on the recruiting trail. Williams announced on Friday that he has received his first Southeastern Conference offer from the University of Missouri, an offer that should trigger several other schools to do the same. Williams, who has played running back, wide receiver and defensive back in his first two high school seasons, racked up 1,377 total yards and 24 touchdowns as a freshman to earn second-team all-state honors. As a sophomore last fall he recorded 2,756 all-purpose yards (1,297 receiving yards, 1,001 rushing yards) and 47 touchdowns. He also showed his ability on defense with 73 tackles and three interceptions.
