It is time to look at some returning Offensive Lineman from Long Island. The road graders from Nassau and Suffolk counties do the dirty work day in and day out, and this article will shed light on some prospects. In addition, this article will feature players not mentioned yet in Prep Redzone articles.
[player_tooltip player_id="235871" first="Mason" last="Dietrich"] Chaminade 2023
Versatility is value, and Dietrich can be utilized all across the line. He is athletic enough to play at RT, and he does an excellent job of staying balanced in pass pro and not lunging out at edge rushers. Dietrich will need more work on not getting turned out by quicker edge players, but he has the athleticism to match any player. When playing inside at Center or Guard, Mason gets off the ball fast and aggressively and shows the ability to roll the hips and quickly get to the second level LB. Sometimes defenders can roll off or escape, but this is usually after Mason has them downfield. Mason provides a ton of upside because his frame and utility allow him to be effective at multiple spots.
I look forward to watching him compete against some talented DL at the All-Northeast Showcase in Albany.
[player_tooltip player_id="237008" first="Vincenzo" last="Verdi"] Long Island Lutheran 2023
Everything about Vicenzo screams the Center position. He is a powerful broad, base, smart road grader. Vincenzo is consistent with his snaps and his body positioning showing he is a true knee bender. When going against a larger interior, DL Verdi can anchor weight down fast against a bullrush. Still, he will have to continue to work on his lateral quickness when dealing with a quicker DL or an interior Blitzer. Vicenzo comes off fast in the run game and knows here needs to be depending on the odd or even front lined against him. Recently Vicenzo showed what type of player he is by competing and having a solid performance at the Polynesian Bowl Showcase in Las Vegas. He matched up against talented interior DL from around the country. I was impressed with the reps I saw against solid players.
[player_tooltip player_id="314029" first="Sebastian" last="Regis"] East Islip 2024
This past season, Regis was a key component to the East Islip firepower that helped [player_tooltip player_id="229768" first="Derek" last="Burrell"] and [player_tooltip player_id="229765" first="Leonardo" last="Lopez"] flourish. I had the opportunity to watch Sebastian multiple times in person, and he is an athletic, powerfully built player. He also is a disruptive DT and can project on either side of the ball. At Right Tackle, his quickness allows him to seal the edge, and once he gets to the outside shoulder, it's over. His knockback power at the point of attack is impressive, and he consistently gets hands-on, not allowing DL to get an extension on him. Regis is a kid who might project higher at the next level at DL because he is so violent and is refined with his hand ability and leverage. In addition, [player_tooltip player_id="314029" first="Sebastian" last="Regis"] is a high-level Wrestler! He will be a dominant state player for the next two seasons.
[player_tooltip player_id="242761" first="Christian" last="Oliva"] St. Anthony’s 2023
Oliva is a veteran OL with a ton of snaps under his belt. He is used consistently to pull for St. Anthony's offense as the moving mauler, and he shows good balance when doing so. Christian knows who to help in pass pro when he is not covered up and picks up a blitzing LB. He is a wide base big body OG, but he will need to continue working his hip flexibility to roll his power into DL. [player_tooltip player_id= "242761" first= "Christian" last= "Oliva"] faces solid DL competition week in and week out, so he will have plenty of opportunities to show his continued development against some of the best competition in the state. He is making the most of the offseason as Christian's next-level interest is picking up.
[player_tooltip player_id="251414" first="TJ" last="Chadwick"] Plainedge 2023
Chadwick is another I was able to watch in person in the Long Island Championship against East Islip. While he doesn't have the massive OT size that the next level loves, he is a violent athletic OL that will ruin your day. Because of his speed, Chadwich can consistently get to the outside shoulder of edge players and has no problem moving to a scraping LB. In pass pro, TJ does a good job of letting his athletic ability take over and moves his base quickly so he doesn't get beat. [player_tooltip player_id="251414" first="TJ" last="Chadwick"] is a high motor player who finishes blocks and doesn’t allow defenders to roll off. He will be a big reason why Plainedge is such a dangerous team, and I look forward to watching how he progresses next season.
[player_tooltip player_id="235894" first="Jadon" last="Margulies"] Hewlett 2023
Marguiles is an athletic RT who has quick feet and length. His frame appears that adding quality size wouldn't be a problem. You can tell he works on his craft with his consistent alignment allowing him to kick back quickly against faster edge players or seal the edge on outside runs. He will need to continue to work on his strength and consistency with run blocking, not allowing defenders to slip off. Still, you can tell the ability is there with Jadon Marguiles, and this offseason is a huge opportunity to take advantage of a dominant senior season.
