This tournament is once a year in Houston, Texas hosted by Clay Mack Skillz a athletic movement specialist / NFL Dback trainer and Coach Gordon Lavalius. Below is a list I compiled of the Quarterbacks I thought stood out the most.
1. Joey Duran 5’7″ 155 lbs Class of 2024 Texas City HS / Cat Takeover 7v7
All I can say is don’t get fooled by his size because he plays 10x bigger than that. Duran was one of the best Quarterbacks there if not the best. He checks off these boxes accuracy, strong arm, great anticipation, and is a great leader. I was impressed with how quickly Duran was able to move through his progressions if his first option was not open and still get the ball out of his hand. Duran is a part of the 2024 class and he lead his team through some tough competition to win the Endzone 7v7 tournament championship which was stacked with multiple top players from the 2023 and 2022 classes. That age difference did not phase Duran one bit. Duran’s anticipation of passes was so on timing it did not matter if his receivers were open or not, because he knew how to throw them open. To send team Cat Takeover to the quarterfinal game Duran threw a no-look pass to the back of the endzone while rolling out to his right. That might’ve been the most impressive pass I witnessed all tournament. Keep an eye out for the name Joey Duran. Duran’s future is very bright.
2.Quinn Roth 6’3″ 140 lbs Class of 2026 La Costa Canyon HS / Fast Camp 7v7
Quinn Roth was one of the youngest quarterbacks that came out to the tournament and I was impressed. Roth is only an eighth-grader right now. He has the prototype arm and size for the Quarterback position and only being an eighth-grader I expect him to grow into a much bigger frame making him a top Quarterback prospect for the class of 2026. Roth’s deep ball accuracy was something special to see. Early in his Quarterback career, you can see that he understands the concept of throwing receivers open and putting the ball where only his receiver can catch it. Roth led his Fast Camp 15u team to a 15u division championship. When Roth throws the ball it gets there fast and in a hurry. Roth is a right-handed quarterback who can roll out to either side and delivers the football accurately on the run which is impressive as only being an eighth-grader.
3.Ty’lyn Blackwell-Williams 5’11” 196 lbs Class of 2025 Paramus Catholic HS / Team ASG 7v
Blackwell-Williams is a home run hitter at quarterback. Blackwell-Williams has great deep ball anticipation and is a true threat when at the Quarterback position. He has trust in his receivers to make the catch but also has the confidence in himself to put the ball where it needs to be. At times Blackwell-Williams is letting the ball go before his receivers are even open which is impressive to only be a Freshman quarterback. Blackwell-Williams can and will throw intermediate and short passes into tight windows with accuracy. His overall confidence and swagger about his talent is something that he carries with him and I believe it elevates his game. He will be a name to watch for sure this upcoming season in New Jersey High School football.
4. Julian Salazar 6’0″ 180 lbs Class of 2025 Clear Springs HS / Team DAB 7v7
Salazar was very impressive at the Endzone 7v7 tournament this past weekend. The thing that stood out to me was Salazar’s understanding of the 7v7 and his game management skills. Salazar has a good arm, a nice tight spiral on his passes, and could throw a pretty nice deep ball. Salazar does not let his arm talent shift his focus from leading his team to victories. Salazar did a great job of taking what the defense gave him whether it was a check down, intermediate routes, or the deep ball. Salazar quickly recognizes the defense then makes his decision. I’m impressed with Salazar’s pump fake. Salazar was faking defenders out with his shoulder fake in every game he played making them believe he is throwing one way and then going to the exact spot he moved the defender from. Salazar will be able to carry that attribute to the next level wherever he lands.
