There are some very high level dual-threat quarterbacks playing in the DMV area today. From class to class, quarterbacks who utilize throwing and running in tandem are becoming more and more dynamic at the high school level. Listed below are a few of those quarterback prospects who displayed elite dual-threat capabilities this past season. Now, let’s take a closer look at each quarterback individually. 2023 6’3 200 QB – Myles Slade – St. John’s Myles Slade and the entire St. John’s football program have a very tough act to follow next season, given that the 2021 season ended with the Cadets as undefeated WCAC champions. Even so, their next star quarterback is young and eager to prove himself as St. Johns’ QB1 of the future. Myles Slade took a handful of reps during the season, and he did so in the red-zone for the most part. The reason for this is that he possesses elite running ability and next level vision, which both put him leaps and bounds ahead of most quarterbacks in his class. If Slade continues to develop his throwing strength and accuracy this offseason then there’s no reason why St. John’s won’t be WCAC championship contenders yet again. Pulling off another undefeated season would be close to a miracle in this conference, however, Myles Slade certainly gives them a chance to do so because of his dynamic playmaking ability and dual-threat potential. Myles Slade is about to have a breakout season in 2022 and D1 scouts nationwide must get their popcorn ready. https://t.co/yY11cowDWT 2024 5’11 180 QB – [player_tooltip player_id="172210" first="Michael" last="Van Buren"] – St. Frances Academy St. Frances Academy ended their season on the highest of highs when they upset IMG Academy in Florida to conclude their season finale. This momentum will carry over to the 2022 season without question, and quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="172210" first="Michael" last="Van Buren"] will lead the charge under center for the Panthers. Van Buren will finally have full-control of the offense, and he truly brings a new look and style that will be incredibly difficult for defenses to deal with. MVB is extremely efficient in the pocket, but he’s also more than effective in scramble situations. His ability to throw on the run is up there with the best in the state already, and he’s never shy about running with the football. Van Buren already understands the extreme importance of picking up first downs, and he’s willing to use every tool in his repertoire to get the job done. He already has power five conference offers from Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Penn State, and he has an incredibly high ceiling at the quarterback position. Everyone must get ready because it’s [player_tooltip player_id="172210" first="Michael" last="Van Buren"]’s time to shine in 2022. https://t.co/rVE7whOxJh 2024 6’1 175 QB – [player_tooltip player_id="264047" first="Brenton" last="Toles"] III – St. Mary’s Ryken [player_tooltip player_id="264047" first="Brenton" last="Toles"] III proved without a shred of doubt that he deserves to be the unanimous starting quarterback for St. Mary’s Ryken. During the season, Toles led the Knights to victory over the undefeated Archbishop Carroll Lions to capture, by far, their most impressive win of the year. Toles is especially dynamic on the run because he possesses blazing speed and an incredible throwing arm in the scramble. His ability to run and throw simultaneously is second to none on this list, and he truly has amazing accuracy and power when throwing on the run. Toles is also elusive and very quick, which helps his efficiency and ability to get rid of the ball. St. Mary’s Ryken improved with every game last season, and they’re in prime position to have a bounce-back season in 2022, especially with [player_tooltip player_id="264047" first="Brenton" last="Toles"] III starting at quarterback. He absolutely has D1 potential, and scouts should take his recruitment very seriously. https://t.co/H2yfAuHrdU 2025 6’0 175 QB – [player_tooltip player_id="250315" first="Denzel" last="Gardner"] – DeMatha It’s difficult to be more exciting as a quarterback than [player_tooltip player_id="250315" first="Denzel" last="Gardner"] has been since his first start. As a Freshman, Gardner led the DeMatha Stags to a very successful season where they were one win away from reaching the WCAC championship. This fact will be on every DeMatha player’s mind this fall no doubt, and it will absolutely drive them to achieve total dominance this upcoming season. [player_tooltip player_id="250315" first="Denzel" last="Gardner"] is the epitome of a successful dual-threat quarterback, and he handles himself with class on and off the field. He’s a leader with immense talent and an insanely high ceiling at the next level. The DeMatha Stags are my way too early pick to win the WCAC in 2022, and the primary reason for that choice is [player_tooltip player_id="250315" first="Denzel" last="Gardner"]. He is as exciting of a player as you can get at the quarterback position, and he will absolutely put up huge numbers on his way to competing for a championship. Everyone must know the name [player_tooltip player_id="250315" first="Denzel" last="Gardner"]. https://t.co/IHHao83ZEp 2025 6’4 190 QB – [player_tooltip player_id="272253" first="Malik" last="Washington"] – Archbishop Spalding [player_tooltip player_id="272253" first="Malik" last="Washington"] has a very high ceiling as a quarterback, and, after studying under Senior Nick Gutierrez for an entire year, he is finally ready to command the Spalding offense in full starting in 2022. Spalding went 5-0 in regular season conference play last season, but they unfortunately fell short of winning an MIAA championship. [player_tooltip player_id="272253" first="Malik" last="Washington"] possesses next level talent with his throwing arm and his legs, and if anyone can bring an MIAA title to the Cavaliers it’s [player_tooltip player_id="272253" first="Malik" last="Washington"]. Washington will be surrounded by a plethora of dynamic offensive weapons to help him succeed, but, ultimately, it will be his own performance and decision making that makes or breaks the season for Spalding in 2022. Scouts must add [player_tooltip player_id="272253" first="Malik" last="Washington"] to their watchlists because he has the potential to have a huge breakout season in the Fall.
