Northwest Ohio: 2023 Rankings

The first editions of the 2023 rankings have just dropped, and some NW Ohio athletes are gaining traction with PRZ. We typically update the rankings 3-4 times a year, so if you didn’t make this edition’s rankings keep grinding and look out for the May edition.

[player_tooltip player_id="34499" first="Luke" last="Montgomery"], OL - Findlay High School

Rank: 2

Luke is the highest-ranked player in NWO and leads as the number 2 ranked prospect in the state. After committing to Ohio State on the 17th of February 2022 via Instagram. Only two other players committed to Ohio State from northwest Ohio in the past ten years before Montgomery, Jayme Thompson of Central Catholic c/o 2013 and Dallas Gant of St. Johns Jesuit c/o 2018. Luke has the size and speed to be an excellent guard or center at the college level and beyond. He is a Blue Chip!

[player_tooltip player_id="126480" first="Blake" last="Lichtenberg"], QB - St. John’s Jesuit

Rank: 25

Smooth athlete with the smarts to play the position at a high level: see 2021 film for demonstrations. Staying healthy will be essential for Blake as he got dinged up last fall and produced a solid season with the Titans. He has excellent touch on his passes, and his "zip" on the ball has also improved. Blake has the tools of a Mid Major D1 QB and is the highest-rated QB in NWO c/o 2023.

[player_tooltip player_id="173939" first="Sam" last="Smith Jr"], WR - Wauseon

Rank: 31

Big body raw athlete that can flat out play football. It’s the intangibles that make Sam a hidden gem as he has sure hands and a quick first step. The University of Toledo gained a commitment from Smith this offseason, and his status is rising. Wauseon will be a popular location in NW Ohio this fall, and Smith will attract a lot of attention to his small town. Exciting prospect to follow over the next football season.

[player_tooltip player_id="92620" first="Kaden" last="Holmes"], QB - Fremont

Rank: 59

[player_tooltip player_id="92620" first="Kaden" last="Holmes"] is an athlete that I have followed since he was in Jr high. The three-year starter has something to prove in 2022! Holmes has excellent pocket awareness and is a true dual-threat in the backfield. One exciting thing about Kaden is that he is skilled enough to play in the secondary or WR at the next level. Despite not being the prototypical 6’3 D1 QB height, he has the skills to play at that level. Watch for Holmes and the Little Giants to blow up this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="92624" first="Bryson" last="Hammer"], WR - Fremont

Rank: 71

One of the best route runners in the area and has the speed to tag along with it. Hammer is lethal with the ball in his hands as he amassed over 1400 yards in total offense in 2021. This two-time all-league wideout will be accompanied by possibly the best WR core in the state. Hammer is a nightmare in the slot because he is a mismatch for most linebackers and safeties. All-State talent and skill set.

[player_tooltip player_id="189484" first="Grant" last="Zimmerly"], OL - Perrysburg

Rank:73

He is one of the most underrated offensive linemen in the state, and for good reasons, he missed the 2021 season. Big, nasty, and aggressive is what you want out of a significant run game up front, and he will give you that and some. Zimmerly’s older brother, Cade, walked on at Bowling Green and won Pro Football Focus 1st Team Freshman All-American.
