This year Central will look to build off that successful 2021 campaign in 2022 with the many outstanding players they return. They open their season August 26th against East Lansing, who is a proud program that has the makings of being a great game.
#4 Tyler Lynch | DB | 5-10 | 2023 | Hudl
Lynch has good hands and has the ability to come down with interceptions. Lynch is good in zone coverage, showing good quickness and lateral movements. Lynch can effectively come back to the football and create pass breakups. Tyler Lynch played on kickoff and was great at flying downfield and making good form tackles. Lynch has good long speed to stay stride for stride with receivers. Lynch has fluid hips and can turn his head around and make plays to the football when teams try to challenge him deep.
#20 Andrew Dinges | RB/DL | 5-9 | 2023 | Hudl
Dinges highlights are so fun to watch. At the defensive line position, he is explosive off the line of scrimmage. There are plays where Dinges is in the back field before the quarterback can finish dropping back. Dineges is so hard to block one on one since his quickness allows him to run by larger lineman who can’t move laterally as well as he can. Dinges has a motor that is always running. There are several plays where he tracks down quarterbacks as they are trying to get outside the pocket and scramble. Andrew Dinges has good weight room numbers, posting 405 lbs on squat and 500 lbs on the deadlift.
#23 Tomas Layne | RB/LB | 5-11 | 2024 | Hudl
Layne has tremendous ability to side-step defenders and make them miss. He can cut quickly and his acceleration out of cuts is outstanding. Layne has home run speed and can take long runs all the way to the end zone. Central loved to run toss plays to Layne. Many times he broke those carries for 20 plus yards. Layne has good hands and can catch the football effectively out of the back field. Tomas Layne enters only his Junior season in 2022 and will look to carry over his success from this past year into next year. His big play ability will give Portage Central an edge in almost every game they play next year.
#17 Clayton Bacon | WR/CB | 5-10 | 2023 | Hudl
Bacon was outstanding on special teams for Central this past season. He made plays on kick return & kickoff for Central. On kickoff, they had Bacon on the outside, untitling his speed and athleticism to contain returners from getting to the outside. Clayton Bacon not only made sure no returners got outside of him, he also made several sure tackles. On kick return, Bacon made several big time blocks that knocked opposing players out of the play. Bacon played well at corner this year. Showing the ability to fly up and make secure tackles. On play in particular, he flew up and made an outstanding form tackle that prevented touchdown.
