These prospects are coming off highly productive freshman seasons and are worth keeping an eye on over the next few years.
So without further ado, let’s get to know Lake County’s future stars of tomorrow…
Martin Cohen | RB | Antioch ’25
Cohen is one of the more unique prospects I’ve had the chance to scout over the last few years. You don’t find too many 6’4″ running backs with the speed to go the distance and the elusiveness to wiggle around defenders. It’ll be interesting to see how his career unfolds over the next few years. Nonetheless, he’s a unique talent with a ton of upside who can emerge as one of Lake County’s hidden gems.
Jarren Black | ATH | Carmel ’25
I like Black’s versatility at this stage in his development. He lines up WR, DB and even does a pretty good job as a kicker. He’s already 5’11” as a sophomore and his slim frame can easily be filled out over the next couple of years. I think the receiver position is where he projects best. Black has already shown the ability to highpoint the rock and the willingness to block as a receiver.
Jordan Mckie | ATH | Carmel ’25
Mckie comes from a football pedigree so it’s no surprise that he has a great feel for the game at a young age. He’s extremely productive on both sides of the ball as a WR/DB. My way too early projection of where he’s best suited to play would be defensive back. You can tell he has a great understanding of the game and he already flashes solid man coverage skills and the ability to flip his hips and run with opposing receivers—definitely a prospect to keep an eye on over the next few years.
Mac Jones | QB | Deerfield ’25
Mac Jones racked up 31 touchdowns during his freshman year at Deerfield High School. And I would say he’s in pretty good shape if his namesake is any indication of how his career will turn out. He’s still very early in his development, but he’s extremely poised in the pocket and has a live arm that can make a variety of throws. Not to mention, he’s a dual-threat who is a very talented and strong runner who’s going to give defensive coordinators headaches over the next few years.
Jaylen Gordon | ATH | North Chicago ’25
Gordon was a heavy contributor on North Chicago’s JV team and has emerged as one of their most promising prospects moving forward. I spoke with North Chicago’s Head Coach Wilton Hill and he mentioned that Gordon was an instinctual athlete who plays well behind his pads, a hard worker who loves the weight room, and possesses all the traits to grow into a leader as this team looks to climb their way back to the top of the Northern Lake County Conference.
