I’ve been highlighting all of our newcomers to the 2023 rankings, and now there’s now one position remaining. [caption id="attachment_197944" align="alignleft" width="137"] [player_tooltip player_id="274364" first="Drew" last="Novak"][/caption] [player_tooltip player_id="274364" first="Drew" last="Novak"] (Western Brown) 6’5 180- [player_tooltip player_id="274364" first="Drew" last="Novak"] had one, if not the most productive seasons in Ohio High School football history. He threw for 5,269 yards 56 TD’s 11INT’s. He rushed for 1,202 and 21 TD’s. I have to think that might be the only 5,000 yard passing and 1,000 yard rushing season in Ohio high school football history. Novak is a long and athletic Quarterback. On the heels of his big junior season and the traits he displayed, he flied up our rankings and debuts as our #2 quarterback and our #23 player in the 2023 class. He does a great job of reading defenses and identifying where the ball needs to go. He has a good internal clock and uses his legs to make plays when the throw isn’t there. He throws with different arm slots and with anticipation. If that was his junior season, I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in his farewell season. Novak is getting D2 interest right now. Links: Twitter/Hudl [player_tooltip player_id="274380" first="Dru" last="DeShields"] (West Branch) 6’3 175- DeShields is another athletic QB who can hurt you with his arms or his legs. He has good arm strength and good deep ball touch. He has good feet in the pocket and throws with anticipation. DeShields also plays Safety on the defensive side of the ball. Dru comes in as our #7 ranked quarterback, and our #51 ranked player. He’s getting interest from several MAC schools. Links: Twitter/Hudl [player_tooltip player_id="274363" first="Deuce" last="Caldwell"] (Licking Heights) 5’11 190- Caldwell is a smaller QB who uses his legs a lot. He strains defenses by running the ball when the throw isn’t there, and by extending plays and making throws on the run. He’s used in designed runs as well. Caldwell does a good job of executing the zone read run. If he plays QB at the next level rather than athlete, I think a zone read offense is where he would best fit. Caldwell is starting to get D1 mid-major interest.
