This list has a ton of young and upcoming talent including who will likely be one of the top prospects in the state of Iowa in the Class of 2025. There is also a Division I level tight end with surprisingly no offers, yet should see them here soon!
Find out which five young gun wide receiver prospects caught our eyes down in West Des Moines and Iowa City.
Wide Receivers:
Gage Olsen | Valley | 2025
For his age, I thought Gage had a physicality level that played beyond just being a freshmen especially what he displayed in 1on1 drills. He also showed solid hip rotation when running thru his routes in those 1on1 drills. I tapped into his freshmen tape, and saw plenty of potential for the future. He showed an elevated push off his blocks to change his course from being a blocker to a wide receiver that showed good speed from point A to point B. I would certainly describe him as a elusive pass-catcher that can also be a solid blocker with good technique. He shows a ton of aggression in his blocks regardless if he is lining up at wide receiver or cornerback as he just loves to put guys on the turf also on special teams too. In his midseason tape, I saw his burst improve so as just a freshmen, I think this young man has a bright future.
Lawson Langford | Ankeny Centennial | 2024
Lawson showed off multiple skillsets that showed out his game to a solid level at the Level Up 7on7 tryout on Sunday. He showed off great speed out of his break and showed off to be a solid route runner with loose hips and could turn quite easily. Lawson’s film shows great versatility for his game. His ability to move consistently in motion on film and have plenty of successful plays come out of it is awesome to watch. He is also a solid receiving option on short yardage situations as that speed he possesses turns that short yardage you need into big yardage real quick with his burst. He shows a good balance in his footwork and I think with increased time in the weight room getting stronger, there is a good chance we could see this kid in the future playing on Saturdays.
Xzavion Robinson | Valley | 2025
Xzavion had to be one of the most dynamic wide receiver prospects and overall athletes I watched in both sessions in West Des Moines and Iowa City. This young man is well beyond his years with his route running and he shows a strong ability to create separation with the moves he is able to make super quickly. His footwork is super twitchy and he can move from side to side like a defender is not even standing there. He also can be considered an acrobat, as he made so many catches in tight windows over the weekend that had that wow factor while watching him go to work. Xzavion also has a very high vertical and can get up and compete with bigger defensive backs and get what he needs. He is also a fantastic return-man on kickoffs and punts, as Xzavion puts that footwork on display regularly on his freshmen tape. I said a couple weekends ago, but I feel like this young man is going to be the #1 WR prospect/overall prospect in the state of Iowa as there was so many intangibles he possessed that were well beyond his years.
Dante Sciorrotta Dante Sciorrotta 5'9" | 150 lbs | WR West Des Moines Valley | 2025 State IA | Valley | 2025
Dante impressed me most in the early drills when he displayed solid footwork for being just a freshmen. He has a great burst for the duration of his routes. He also shows good length when he extends his arms to gather the football. I like the stamina on this young man too, as he can stay the course and wear down the secondary with his ability to stay on pace for the duration of his route running. He also shows great speed when turning his body to move up the field. I’m going to buy stock now, this Valley Tigers wide receiving core is already so freaking deep in the Class of 2025, I can’t wait to watch these three on our WR list play at the varsity level and ball out!
Tight Ends:
Jalyn Thompson Jalyn Thompson 6'4" | 220 lbs | TE Dowling Catholic | 2023 State IA | Dowling Catholic | 2023
I said it on Saturday when I watched him for one of the first times, I think Jalyn Thompson Jalyn Thompson 6'4" | 220 lbs | TE Dowling Catholic | 2023 State IA of Dowling Catholic is one of the best route running tight ends I have watched in the Midwest recently. His routes were so crisp and he showed off a great bend in 1on1s that will shape well at the next-level when he gets there. Not to mention, holy maceral can this young man throw blocks. He has super forceful hands that can work really quickly on his punches or drive the bus up field as on one particular play on his tape, he drives a defensive player just about 25 yards into the back of the end zone into no man’s land. On occasion, Thompson has been given the football while in motion and with his downhill running ability, I’m sure it’s a scary sight once he gets into the second level for those in the secondary. No offers yet for Jalyn, but you can bet his recruiting should open a lot more in the next 3 to 6 months as he has a solid amount of D1s and D2s talking with him.
Stay tuned for more from the Level Up 7on7 tryout in the coming days!
