Every year we have athletes that come out and surprise everyone. Most are simply unaware of the immense body of work these guys are putting in, getting ready to lead their team and beat yours. Now, I would like to highlight 4 quarterbacks that I believe will have breakout years in 2022.
[player_tooltip player_id="253304" first="M’khi" last="Guy"] (Muskegon)
I fully expect [player_tooltip player_id="253304" first="M’khi" last="Guy"] to turn some heads. The young Muskegon QB tore it up on the JV team this past season and he now has two years of valuable experience with the elite Muskegon program. Everything I’ve heard about Guy has been glowing. I hear he’s way ahead of the curve and that he’s a truly special talent even from Muskegon’s standards. I look forward to reviewing all of his strengths. The turnaround at Muskegon is really nice, and I fully expect Muskegon to compete for a state championship in 2022.
[player_tooltip player_id="188030" first="Connor" last="Wolf"] (GR Catholic Central)
You either know a lot about Wolf or very little. In the microculture that is the scouting community, [player_tooltip player_id="188030" first="Connor" last="Wolf"] is spoken of as an incredible QB prospect that’s ready to burst from the seams. I mean, all the ingredients are there. He put up amazing numbers on JV, he’s tested extremely well at camps, and he’s set to start for a team that’s won 3-straight state titles. As a pro-style QB prospect, [player_tooltip player_id="188030" first="Connor" last="Wolf"] may be the real deal.
[player_tooltip player_id="249012" first="Reqez" last="Nance"] (West Bloomfield)
Nance did not perform poorly during his first season under center for West Bloomfield, but it was obvious that he had a few things to work on. Nance will be heading into 2022 with a full varsity season under his belt, having faced some of the best programs in the state, and having plenty of offseason work. If we know anything about West Bloomfield, it’s that they produce elite talent. I expect big things from Nance this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="247646" first="Aspen" last="Keyes"] (DeWitt)
Keyes is in a very similar category to Wolf. On an incredible program having played behind [player_tooltip player_id="80519" first="Ty" last="Holtz"], Keyes is not given the keys to a lucrative starting job. Keyes is the only athlete on this list from the Class of 2025, and I fully expect him to only improve and blossom into a top-QB when his High School career is said and done.
