Kickoff for the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl is just over 24 hours away at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach and the North Team conducted a 2-hour practice in final preparation for the contest, which will kick off at 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. With temperatures in the 50s and cloudy, it was one of the better days weather wise.
IN THE RED ZONE AND ON THE GOAL LINE
[player_tooltip player_id="153264" first="Trent" last="Pearman"] (Daniel) will get the start tomorrow for the North Team and he will likely go to Josh Sapp (Greenville) when he does. Sapp is tough to defend and that could be an advantage against the South tomorrow. The North will use Sapp at H-Back and receiver.
Don’t be surprised to see [player_tooltip player_id="59469" first="Zan" last="Dunham"] (Chester) in the Wildcat on Saturday afternoon. Dunham is a dynamic quarterback who won’t be afraid to take some hits. [player_tooltip player_id="89316" first="Will" last="Mattison"] (Northwestern) will get the nod behind Pearman and there’s another York County connection he could go to in [player_tooltip player_id="153265" first="Darius" last="Bowser"] (Clover). The two connected on a corner route early on in the session.
DYNAMIC DUO AT THE SLOT POSITION
Expect the North Team’s offense to go up tempo and put pressure on the defensive front for the South and there are two guys you should keep an eye on tomorrow.
[player_tooltip player_id="153245" first="DJ" last="Black"] (Chapman, pictured above) was lined up in the slot and he can make plays on bubble screens and get up field quickly. He made an incredible diving catch on a deep ball from Mattison in the team period. Black loves the competition and has enjoyed the experience from the week’s activities.
THUMPER ON DEFENSE
[player_tooltip player_id="59502" first="Dumkele" last="Idehen"] (Indian Land) can make tackles in space and close on the ball quickly. The North Team’s defensive coaches expect the South to use counter plays, but Idehen could bottle that up pretty quickly.
