Continue ReadingCoopersville is a team that greatly improved this season after many seasons without a winning record. Led by passionate coaches staff and an all-star defense, Coopersville stayed very competitive in the OK-Blue, ultimately earning 4th place after a few very close league losses. Here, I’ll go in-depth on how Coopersville performed this season, and where they’re headed in the future. Now, let’s first take a quick look at their 2021 schedule.
42-30 W vs Big Rapids
42-0 W vs Wayland
29-22 W vs Fruitport
7-3 W vs Holland Christian
24-6 W vs Allendale
24-28 L vs West Catholic
20-27 L vs Spring Lake
7-69 L vs Unity Christian
37-21 W vs Hamilton
6-45 L vs Cedar Springs (Playoffs)
An up-and-down year
As you can see, there were some pretty high highs and low lows this season. Coopersville began the year 5-0 while being 3-0 in league play. The offense was really finding its stride and the defense was absolutely suffocating. I watched their game against Allendale, and the emotion and energy in the final moments were incredible. Coopersville was incredibly confident and undoubtedly ready for West Catholic, though West Catholic was also ready for them. After losing 3 straight against WC, Spring Lake, and Unity Christian, Coopersville defeated Hamilton then faced an excellent Cedar Springs team in the postseason.
Coaching
Coopersville is coached by Ed Kaman, who was hired in 2017. He is a former offensive coordinator under Mark Chapman. Admittedly, I don’t know much about Coopersville’s coaching staff, but Kaman was very passionate and invested in the game when they faced Allendale. His post-game speech was electric and made me want to run through a brick wall.
Standout Athletes
DE Tim Allen
Allen was perhaps the most dominant defender I watched all season. The way he impacted the game as a defensive end was incredible, as it seemed like he was in on every single tackle and as always around the ball making hits. Allen will be playing his college ball at Ferris St. where he’ll be on a historically great defense on a team that is always top-10 in Division 2.
WR Ryan Serba
Serba was a great receiver for Coopersville this year, one that I believe is very underrated. He has great hands with good elusiveness and run after catch ability. Can win 50/50 balls and make similarly difficult catches. I’m excited to see what Serba can do next season.
MLB Ty Anthony
Anthony was another catalyst of the defense, and he played well at the linebacker spot. A hard-hitter who finishes his tackles, though he can certainly be much more aggressive and aware. Next season should be a great one for the soon-to-be senior.
Looking ahead
Coopersville is on the up-and-up and I see them being just as good in 2022. They have a ton of young talent, including a 2025 quarterback that could really turn heads. I honestly don’t see them winning the Blue as long as Unity Christian is in the mix, but they could compete for the #2 spot again next season.
