The Jenks Trojans knew that Union was going to come out with a purpose after being shut out by the Trojans in their last two meetings. And for the second straight year, the Trojans saw an early touchdown from their opponent and for the second straight year, it didn’t matter as the Trojans took home the gold ball. Jenks ran away from Union with a strong defensive performance and second half to win 30-15.
Union struck first on the very first play of the game with an 80-yard touchdown pass from Rovaughn Banks Rovaughn Banks 5'10" | 200 lbs | ATH Union | 2022 State OK to Makhai Belt Makhai Belt 5'10" | WR Union | 2022 State OK and after a botched extra point was actually converted for a two-point conversion gave Union an 8-0 lead. After Jenks would punt, both teams exchanged interceptions and Union would strike again on a first play. Banks found Da’Monn Sanders Da’Monn Sanders 6'3" | TE Union | 2022 State OK on a 43-yard touchdown to go up 15-0. Jenks would miss the first of two field goals but the Jenks defense would start getting into a groove after that.
They force Union into a three-and-out and would take three plays to score on a Shaker Reisig Shaker Reisig 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Union | 2025 State OK touchdown run from 26-yards out. Union would go three-and-out again but Jenks couldn’t capitalize on good field position right before half as they missed another field goal and Union led the Trojans 15-7 at halftime. However, it seemed like only a matter of time before the Trojans got rolling on offense as the defense was starting to flex their muscles in the second quarter and the Trojans had the ball for the majority of the first half but just couldn’t put more points on the board.
The second half would begin with fireworks as well with Jaiden Carroll Jaiden Carroll 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Jenks | 2023 State OK , who was outstanding on Saturday afternoon, took the kickoff back 41 yards and gave the Trojans great field position to start the second half. Seven plays later, the Trojans would score on a QB sneak from Reisig on his second touchdown on the afternoon. Union’s second half drives would end with a three-and-out, interception, missed field goal, pick six and a turnover on downs. The Trojans held Union to just 76 yards of total offense in the second half.
The Trojans would take the lead late in the third quarter when junior running back Jalyn Stanford Jalyn Stanford 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Jenks | 2023 State OK got loose but tackled near the goal line. The junior would fumble the ball into the end zone but senior Glenny Jones Glenny Jones 5'10" | ATH Jenks | 2022 State OK was right there to fall on it for the touchdown. The pick six would come late in the fourth quarter when Union was trying to tie the game up. Ty Walls Ty Walls 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Jenks | 2023 State OK read the quarterback all the way and stepped in front of the pass and strolled into the end zone to put the Trojans up 30-15 and Union wouldn’t threaten after that.
Carroll was the workhorse back on the afternoon with 147 yards on 27 carries. Stanford was the electric back as he came in and had 100 yards on just eight carries. That 1-2 punch has been one of the best all season and they showcased it on the biggest stage in 6A-1. And not enough can be said about the Jenks defense as they absolutely shut Union down following their 15-point outburst. Senior linebacker Ethan Bilgrien led the team in tackles with 11 and Cade Stacy Cade Stacy 6'2" | DB Jenks | 2022 State OK , Cooper Crissup and Ty Walls Ty Walls 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Jenks | 2023 State OK all had interceptions.
With their win on Saturday, the Trojans captured their second straight state championship and the 18th state championship in school history. That breaks a tie that lasted about 18 hours with Clinton, who won their 17th state championship on Friday night. Now the Trojans are one title behind Ada, who holds the most state championships in state history with 19 titles.
