The final games of the 2021 high school football season here in Tennessee are here and boy do we have some strong championship matchups!
Among these matchups are inner battles between players, looking to lead their teams to victory. Here we look at the top names that could walk away with Championship MVP honors.
1. (QB) [player_tooltip player_id="101978" first="Destin" last="Wade"] - Summit (vs. Oakland - Class 6A Championship)

- The unstoppable force that has been Wade this season meets a gritty, tough and technique sound defense at Oakland and if he goes off yet again, game MVP will be well earned. The future Kentucky Wildcat has been outstanding on the ground this year along with timely passing, so he presents a big challenge for the Pats defense. Wade will no doubt be the #1 key for Oakland on Saturday night and if he ends up running for 150 plus yards, Summit could be walking away at 6A state champs.
2. (QB) [player_tooltip player_id="150807" first="Jake" last="McNamara"] - Page (vs. Powell - Class 5A Championship)
- McNamara is the straw that stirs the drink for the Patriots team. As he goes, the team goes and the Colorado St. commit has been playing at a high level over the last month and playing his best football at the right time. He is a precision passer that has a lot of targets to throw to. McNamara’s play will be key in the Patriots efforts in defeating Powell. They will need McNamara to be his bright and shining self, putting up huge numbers and if he does that, he will be the title game MVP.
3. (QB) [player_tooltip player_id="205349" first="William" last="Riddle"] - McCallie (vs. MBA - D2-Class AAA Championship)
- The McCallie Blue Tornado football program has been on fire for a few years now and many thought they would take a dip back this year but that has not been the case and a big reason for the undefeated season thus far is the play of Riddle. The Chattanooga area quarterback has been lights out this year. Riddle is precise, smart and decisive with his passes and that kind of play has led his Blue Tornado team to yet another state championship game. Look for Riddle to be the catalyst for the Blue Tornado offense in their contest vs. the Big Red.
4. (RB) Jordan James - Oakland (vs. Summit - Class 6A Championship)
- The counterpart to Wade and Summit’s rushing attack are the Patriots potent running game as well, led by this star back and Georgia commit. James can wear down a defense while also hitting the home run shot at any given moment. Summit will certainly be keying on James and the Patriots run game, so patience may be needed but the future Georgia Bulldog has the power and endurance to tire out the Spartans defense by game’s end and lead Oakland to victory.
5. (QB) [player_tooltip player_id="150806" first="Luther" last="Richesson"] - Lipscomb Academy (vs. CPA - D2-Class AA Championship)
[caption id="attachment_238054" align="alignnone" width="300"] Photo: stateoftennesseehsfb.com[/caption]
- Nobody has been more clean or precise behind center this year than Richesson and he looks poised to lead his Mustangs team to a D2-Class AA State title. Almost near perfect throwing the ball, Richesson has played out his mind at times this season and that play led him to becoming a current Cincinnati commit. His Mustangs team will need the future Bearcat quarterback to be on his game against a CPA team that will be keying on [player_tooltip player_id="102012" first="Alex" last="Broome"] and is looking for payback from their loss earlier this season.
6. (QB) [player_tooltip player_id="235098" first="Bradford" last="Gaines"] - DCA (vs. Nash. Christian - D2-Class A Championship)
- The Wildcats have been quite potent on offense this year and leading the way has been Gaines and his accurate right arm. He has been a poised leader behind center this year and developed further with his arm strength and football knowledge. His passing abilities will be key for the Wildcats on Thursday and if he is on point like he’s been all year, DCA is coming away as champs and Gaines as game MVP.
7. (WR) [player_tooltip player_id="102044" first="Jake" last="Roberts"] - Elizabethton (vs. Tullahoma - Class 4A Championship)

- Down the final stretch of this season, Roberts has been on fire as the main man and go-to guy for his offense and he is definitely someone Tullahoma must keep an eye on all game long. What makes Roberts a strong candidate for game MVP is the fact he can turn any play into a long gain or a touchdown. The Cyclones senior wideout has the speed to break loose anytime the ball is in his hands, so the opposing defense must lock him up or Roberts could be a big factor in the Cyclones winning the Class 4A title.
8. ‘23 (RB) Jordan Harris - Alcoa (vs. East Nashville - Class 3A Championship)
- Alcoa has been a machine this season and this deep in the year, the Tornadoes are clicking on all cylinders with Harris becoming their bell cow back. This junior running back has stepped forward over the last several weeks and taken control of the position to become a formidable force that East Nashville must keep in check. Harris has a great burst and open field speed that can put the Tornadoes offense in the end zone quickly. Top MVP honors could be his as he appears juiced up at the right time of year.
9. ‘23 (Ath) [player_tooltip player_id="102344" first="Marquez" last="Taylor"] - McKenzie (vs. South Pittsburg - Class 1A Championship)
- Nobody has been able to slow down Taylor this season and I see no reason why he stops against the Pirates. The Rebels dynamic athlete has been absolutely sensational this year as the lead star and running back on offense as well as the Rebels top cover guy on defense. He is most definitely on the front of the minds of the South Pitt coaching staff headed into the 1A title game because Taylor brings fear to the football field and someone that can take over a game single handedly.
10. (QB) [player_tooltip player_id="215664" first="Ryan" last="Scott"] - Tullahoma (vs. Elizabethton - Class 4A Championship)

- The best season in Wildcats history is taking place currently and Scott is running the show! The 6’3 senior signal caller has had his best season yet and looks ready for the big matchup with the Cyclones from East Tennessee. Scott can beat you with his arm and legs, so the Elizabethton defense must keep their attention on him or he will take over, putting his team over the top. If Tullahoma win’s this game and becomes Class 4A state champs, Scott should be a strong contender for MVP.
