All of the offseason work and the long 2021 season has come to this ....championship week!
Today down in Chattanooga, Tennessee, inside Finley Stadium, D2-Class A, AA and AAA title games will take place with the final game tonight between McCallie and MBA kicking off around 7 to 7:30 Eastern time zone.
Mustangs Shut Out CPA, Win D2-Class AA Championship
What many saw as possibly the best game of the day, turned out to be yet another blowout for Lipscomb Academy over CPA as they had control of the game from start to finish in their 27-0 win over the Lions.
This was another dominating performance from the Mustangs as they end the season undefeated (13-0) and as state champions for the 1st time since 2007.
The scoring kicked off when senior back and Boston College commit, [player_tooltip player_id="102012" first="Alex" last="Broome"] broke loose on a run and put the Mustangs up 7-0. At this point, Lipscomb didn’t look back and would maintain the lead until the final whistle.
Lipscomb held a 13-0 lead at halftime and went on to double up the score in the second half to put the game away.

Many saw Broome and quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="150806" first="Luther" last="Richesson"] as they guys who explode in this championship and lead the Mustangs to victory but it was their defense that stole the show and really were the MVP’s of this game.
The Mustangs defense was on point today. They didn’t allow Lions star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="102029" first="Cade" last="Law"] to get going nor did they allow their run game to get started. It was an all-out great effort from the Lipscomb Academy defense that with no doubt helped lead them to victory.
A magical season it was for the Mustangs and one this team will always remember.
DCA Storms Past Nash. Christian, 31-7
The 1st quarter was quite sloppy and both teams were scoreless but in the 2nd quarter, DCA broke thru with two rushing touchdowns from sophomore back [player_tooltip player_id="186297" first="Ashton" last="Jones"] to take a 14-0 lead into halftime and the Wildcats would not look back as they went on beat NCS and win their 4th state title in school’s history.
The Wildcats pretty much had control of this game from the beginning, even with the two interceptions thrown by senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="235098" first="Bradford" last="Gaines"]. Nether turnover turned into points as the Nash. Christian could not move the ball against a stout Wildcats defense.
It wasn’t until the back end of the 3rd quarter did the Eagles put points on the board with a quick strike slant from [player_tooltip player_id="153064" first="Tyler" last="Morris"] to junior receiver [player_tooltip player_id="102316" first="Jayden" last="Satterfield"]. That one play was basically the highlight of the day for Nash. Christian as it just wasn’t their game.
DCA received stellar performances on defense from senior athlete [player_tooltip player_id="150873" first="Jacob" last="Cook"], who returned a huge 91 yard kickoff return for touchdown as well as make several key stops and junior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="102313" first="Brady" last="Russell"], who was all over the field.
The Wildcats defense and the ball controlled offense, led by Jones, Gaines and big play wideout Dayton Sneed, was enough to push DCA to victory and to the D2-Class A State Title.
It’s also a great story for this DCA program who was 0-10 just three years ago and their community had to endure a tornado that demolished their school and grounds just two years prior, so this championship has to be extra sweet!

McCallie Defeats MBA, Earns 3-Peat
The top football program in the state right now has to be the McCallie Blue Tornado, especially after beating MBA tonight, 28-7 and earning their third state title in the last three years.
This is king status when you go back to back to back and tonight’s game was never really in question. The Blue Tornado offense put points on the board late in the 1st quarter and never surrendered the lead.

MBA had a hard time all night moving the ball against a very talented McCallie defense. The only points scored on the night by the Big Red came two plays after the Blue Tornado coughed it up, placing the opposition inside their own territory.
Other than that gift, the Big Red could do not do anything and the Blue Tornado defense made 2023 star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="102308" first="Marcel" last="Reed"] scramble for his life all game. It was an outstanding performance, especially from the McCallie front seven in [player_tooltip player_id="151046" first="Matthew" last="Plunkett"], [player_tooltip player_id="102021" first="Thomas" last="Pilon"], [player_tooltip player_id="102069" first="James" last="Howard"] and linebacker Aaron Crowder.
On the other side of the ball, quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="205349" first="William" last="Riddle"] had great command of his offense, throwing pin point passes and making the smart play when it was needed. He had tremendous help by his wideouts, especially [player_tooltip player_id="196975" first="Xavier" last="Gaillardetz"] who had one score and over 115 yards receiving on the night. Junior back Tario Price provided a nice compliment on the ground to help Riddle and the Blue Tornado passing attack.
Overall, it was a great performance from McCallie and a nice stamp on their 2021 season where they finished undefeated and state champs for the third time in a row.
