3A State Championship: Top Moments

And once again it was the Dutch that conquered their 918 rival to claim another Gold Ball. It was big defensive performance from the Dutch’s senior class that keyed the win, as they made Lincoln Christian one dimensional. In the game’s final moments, senior [player_tooltip player_id="61135" first="Ethan" last="Roush"], arguably the team’s MVP during the playoff run, came up with the interception with just over ten seconds to seal the win. In this post, we take a look at the top moments from the title game on Friday afternoon.</div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div><b>Heldebrand One-Handed Touchdown Catch</b></div> <div>Both teams started the game with long drives, the Dutch capped theirs with a field goal while the Bulldogs missed a short one. On the next drive, Holland Hall upped the ante through the air. On 4th and 2, Roush called an audible at the line and looked for Hunt Heldebrand. The receiver made an outstanding one handed grab in the endzone for the score and put the Dutch up 10-0.</div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div><b>[player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"] 43-Yard Touchdown Run</b></div> <div>Holland Hall made Lincoln Christian one-dimensional and they were forced to run the ball. But they could not stop Lincoln quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="52787" first="Max" last="Brown"]. Down 10-0 in the second quarter is when Brown stepped up. He took a QB keep and got loose for a 43-yard touchdown run. The score sparked life into the Bulldogs. The star senior would finish with 176 yards on a workhorse-like 28 carries.</div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div><b>Dutch Special</b></div> <div>Most sports fans have heard of the Philly Special, well this was the Dutch Special. Late in the second quarter, Holland Hall was working on another long, methodical drive. After facing resistance in the red zone, they dug into their bags of tricks. Roush handed off to [player_tooltip player_id="38774" first="Zane" last="Woodham"], who flipped it back to [player_tooltip player_id="61125" first="NuNu" last="Campbell"], who passed it to Roush all alone in the end zone to put the Dutch back up by ten going into halftime.</div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div><b>Roush To Campbell On A Rope</b></div> <div>After an opening drive field goal for the Bulldogs, the game was once again one possession. Which lead to another march in response by the Dutch. This time to cap the drive, [player_tooltip player_id="61135" first="Ethan" last="Roush"] found [player_tooltip player_id="61125" first="NuNu" last="Campbell"] for a 16-yard touchdown that put the Dutch up by 14 points and really put the pressure on Lincoln Christian. It was a beautiful fade pass caught by the Tulsa commit, which featured him toe tapping on the sidelines to secure it and but his squad back in control. </div> <div></div> <div></div> <div><b>Roush Interception Seals The Win</b></div> <div>With five minutes left, [player_tooltip player_id="155258" first="Easton" last="Rogers"] scored for Lincoln Christian to make it a 24-16 game. Roush was able to get one first down for the Dutch, but a few players later they were forced to punt it away with two minutes remaining. A couple penalties extended the desperation drive for the Bulldogs. With the clock ticking down, Brown took a shot into the endzone Playing centerfield was Roush, who would seal the game with an interception. With little over ten seconds left, all that was need to give Holland Hall a second straight state championship was Roush to take a simple knee.
