The most impressive player I saw on the night was Paradise Valley transfer Andrew Trapp Andrew Trapp 5'8" | 150 lbs | WR Scottsdale Christian | 2024 State AZ of SCA, as this kid was sticking his nose in every play and saved numerous TD’s in the back half. Here’s a look at the top defensive players of the game:
Andrew Trapp Andrew Trapp 5'8" | 150 lbs | WR Scottsdale Christian | 2024 State AZ , DB, Scottsdale Christian ’24
A clear defensive MVP and a big time player in the SCA secondary. Trapp saved about 3 TD’s to break up the deep ball, and plays that center field position well at safety as he possesses excellent range to cover the back half of the field. Loose hips with the ability to swiftly turn and burn and transition to top speed quickly. Trapp also flashed a nice break on the ball and possesses good route recognition. Solid ball skills all-around as he also looks like a promising receiver, and should be considered as one of the top players in 2A.
Carson Mousel, DB, Scottsdale Christian ’22
Mousel, a converted QB, had one of the biggest plays of the night where he picked off a pass on 3rd and 5 inside SPA’s own 20 yard line to set up the tying score. He also had a clutch PBU earlier in the game. He did a great job at CB and showed competitive toughness throughout the night, and came up clutch when they needed him the most. Solid game for Mousel.
Carson Boyll, DB/WR, Scottsdale Prep ’22
Boyll had an INT on the night, and was a fly around player for the SPA defense. He shows solid range with the ability to make plays all over the field. Solid instincts and play rec overall and showed strength at the POA. He finishes ball carriers with a pop if he can get a decent angle on them, as he had a couple big hits on Friday night. He showed the ability to make the tackle 1v1 in open field, and was a big time player on that SPA defense.
Blu Schamaden, DB, Scottsdale Christian ’22
Schamaden was another clutch player on that SCA defense. In overtime, he blocked an XP, which ended up having possibly the biggest impact of the game as Scottsdale Christian went on to score during their possession, and make their XP to win 21-20. He did a great job filling alleys and exploding through the tackle throughout the night as well. Fundamental tackler that was excellent in run support, as he showed a good understanding of angles. Impressive and clutch game from Schamaden.
Maddox Delnero, DL, Scottsdale Prep ’22
Delnero did a great job at DE for SPA. He recorded a sack and showcased some sneaky athleticism on the night. Delnero showed solid lateral mobility to make plays lateral down the LOS to help stuff the inside run, as this forced SCA to make something happen on the outsides or get the ball in space. Overall a scrappy player for the SPA squad and is an underrated player on that team.
