I’ve thoroughly enjoyed previewing many of Michigan’s lesser-known programs over the past few months, and that’s exactly what this article is all about as I feature 2 matchups from 8-man football, and 1 division 6 matchup.
Games to Watch
Rudyard @ Suttons Bay (8-man D1)
These teams have been on a crash-course with both averaging over 30 playoff points per game, and winning each of their games by at least 24 points. Suttons bay comes in at 11-0 with Rudyard coming in at 9-2 with a brief mid-season hiccup. Suttons bay has been the runner-up these past 2 seasons, and they look to finally get a state championship. Though it’s very hard to research for this matchup, all signs point to it being a great game. If you’re in the Traverse City area and can’t make it down to Caledonia to see your Trojans play, this is a great game to go to.
Marion @ Powers North Central (8-man D2)
Marion travels to the defending state champions Powers North Central for a shot at the state championship. With both teams averaging over 40PPG, this is bound to be a shootout. Powers North Central seems to be rising as the absolute team to beat in 8-man division 2, and Marion is no joke either as every win has come by at least 30 points.
Players to watch – Luke Gorzinski, Lane Nehring
Calumet @ Standish-Sterling (D6)
Both of these teams stand at 9-2 with two big playoff wins. Standish-Sterling comes off a decisive 20-point win against Boyne City, while Calumet got their revenge against Negaunee last week. These teams are very unfamiliar with one another as they don’t even have any common regular season opponents to speak of.
Players to watch – Dryden Nelson, Laine Thibault
