Ameer Bateman | Paulsboro
Bateman, who is a north and south runner who hits the hole quickly and isn’t afraid to take on contact. He puts his head down and runs hard and is always fighting for extra yards. This past weekend he rushed the ball an astounding 42 times in Paulsboro’s 20-14 victory over Gloucester. He ran for 235 yards and one touchdown which was scored on a 12-yard run in the third quarter.
Antonio Perillo | Metchuen
Perillo averaged 10.5 yards per carry as he ran the ball 22 times for 232 yards and two touchdowns. His big day helped Metuchen to a 28-14 victory over Governor Livingston. He runs with good pad level and does a good job seeking out the running lane and isn’t afraid to bounce it outside.
Ja’Quan Howard | Cedar Creek
Howard had his best performance of the season as he ran the ball 27 times for 228 yards and two touchdowns in Cedar Creek’s 27-0 shutout victory over Somerville. He’s a very smooth runner who is patient and has good vision. He hits the hole hard and is able to fend off contact as he’s very balanced. He scored on runs of 40 and 75-yards to help the Pirates remain undefeated.
Ronnie Heath | Don Bosco Prep
Heath is a junior who has a nice frame. He gets through the hole in a hurry and if he gets into the open space, he’s gone. He showcases great vision as he’s one picking up yards after contact. He carried the ball 25 times for 227 yards and four touchdowns as he helped carry Don Bosco Prep to a 31-7 victory over St. Joseph (Montville). He scored on runs of 2, 11, 31 and 38 yards.
Matthew Manning | Park Ridge
Manning ran the ball 23 times for 224 yards and four touchdowns as his big game propelled Park Ridge into the third round of the playoffs as they defeated Becton 41-15. He’s a patient runner who keeps his eyes downfield. He hits the hole hard and has breakaway speed if he gets into the second level of the defense. He scored on runs of 2, 23, 33 and 81 yards.
