Jake Wascak – Alter – DB – 5’6″ 142 lbs
Everything worked for Alter early on Friday and that includes Special Teams. It’s the phase of the game that never gets any love unless there is a play made. Wascak made his imprint on the game when he not only forced a fumble on a punt return but then somehow came out of the bottom of the pile with the ball. The ball bounced around like a hot potato and Wascak ended up with it. He also added 7 tackles on defense on the night.
Gavin Gavlitz – Tippecanoe – CB – 6’1″ 175 lbs
Gavlitz plays both ways for Tippecanoe but his biggest impact was on defense. They were in a bend, don’t break scenario and Gavlitz decided neither was an option. He came in and punched the ball like it was personal and forced a fumble. Tippecanoe recovered the ball and scored on the ensuing drive. Gavlitz also added a handful of tackles and a PBU on the night.
Keegan Sharpe – St. Mary’s – CB – 5’8″ 165 lbs
Sharpe probably made the biggest play of his life on Friday when it counted most. St. Mary’s had their back’s against the wall as they were pinned in the back of the endzone. Sharpe jumped a route in the corner of the endzone and made the game-winning interception. He played it perfectly as he sat back and read the QB’s eyes and then made a great play on the ball.
James Stevens – Springfield – LB – 5’10” 170 lbs
Springfield won in an impressive fashion on Friday. Their defense had the best game of the year. They didn’t allow a single point to a really good Dublin-Jerome team. Stevens was the leader of the middle of the defense and kept everyone aligned and in place. He was flying all over the backside of the defense making plays every chance he got. He finished the night with a sack, 11 tackles, and a PBU.
