Looking ahead to next season, we have a ton of sophomores that could explode during their junior season. Let’s explore 6 players from 6 OK-Blue teams that are bound to break out.
Players to Watch
Unity Christian DE Mitchell Sparpana
You heard it here first, Sparpana is going to have a huge breakout season next year. Wherever the ball is, Sparpana HAS to be there as he’s a relentless player. Great finesse moves on the line, and with plenty of work this offseason he’ll thrive. This school produces excellent talent and with a large class of 2022, Sparpana will take on a big varsity role where I know he’ll succeed.
West Catholic WR Chaz Vida
Vida already has plenty of attention and for good reason. He has a knack for winning 50/50 balls and is very good after the catch. I’m excited to see what he can do as one of the top options next season with a new QB under center.
Coopersville G/DT Jay Rogers
At 6’1, 278lbs Rogers is already a natural beast in the trenches. Power is the name of his game as he has a very effective bull rush on defense and he’s a brick wall on offense. I’m excited to see how he improves going into next season.
Fruitport G Richard Wiggins IV
I had the opportunity to watch Wiggins week 2 against Cadillac, and I was incredibly impressed. He held his own and then some against a state-championship caliber team, even while the rest of his offensive line was struggling. The technique is there, the power is there, and his only weakness is that he’s 5’8.
Allendale SB Nolan Spencer
Spencer’s hudl description just says “my speed kills” and I can’t disagree with that. Once this guy finds a lane he’s able to make a quick move and he’s off to the races in a blink of an eye. I’m excited to see how he prepares himself to bring his game to the next level.
Holland Christian MLB Ryder Gravenhof
Standing at 6’3 200lbs, Gravenhof has some impressive sophomore highlights. He’s a big hitter and doesn’t wait around to sprint towards the ball. His awareness is at a great level and he’s an excellent tackler. Like all players on this list, I hope he puts in the necessary time and effort to his craft this winter so he can explode into a great player come next summer and fall.
